New Sprint Mobile Hotspot Taps Both 3G and WiMax

New Sprint Mobile Hotspot Taps Both 3G and WiMax

Mobile operator Sprint is rolling out more WiMax-capable gear, announcing two new Sprint 4G Mobile Broadband Routers. The Sprint Personal Hotspot PHD300S enables up to four WiFi-capable devices to connect to the Internet using mobile data networks, while the Cradlepoint MBDR-1000 Broadband Router is aimed at businesses that nee to hook up as many as 32 WiFi devices to the Internet—and both devices support latching onto Sprint’s 3G mobile network as well as 4G WiMax networks where available.

“These mobile broadband routers provide an unprecedented bridge to high-speed network performance for multiple Wi-Fi devices or multiple users,” said Sprint 4G VP Todd Rowley, in a statement. “The addition of these mobile hotspot products offers even faster connectivity speeds to Wi-Fi users without the need to find a Wi-Fi hotspot.”

Both routers support Sprint’s existing 3G and 4G mobile broadband USB devices; the Personal Hot Spot PHS 300S carries at $159.99 price tag in areas with Sprint 4G support; the Cradlepoint MBR1000 router will run $249.99 and will be available through Sprint’s business channels.

Sprint lags a little behind partner Clearwire in offering 4G service in areas where WiMax is up and running. Spring currently offers 4G service in Baltimore, and plans to launch 4G service in Las Vegas, Atlanta, and Portland this month, with additional markets coming online this year. Sprint also offers a combined 3G/4G USB modem.

Someone holding the Honor Magic 6 RSR outside.

There's no doubt that 2024 has already been an exciting year for Android phones. Samsung wowed us with the Galaxy S24 series at the beginning of the year, the OnePlus 12 and 12R are two of the best phones available right now, and Google is expected to impress later this month with the Google Pixel 8a.

But for the last few weeks, I haven't been thinking about any of those phones. Why? Because I've been using the Honor Magic 6 RSR. After launching in China this past March, the Magic 6 RSR is now available in the EU, and that's allowed more folks than ever to get their hands on the phone. And that's great, because the Honor Magic 6 RSR has quickly become my new favorite Android phone of 2024.
