Your aging Apple TV might finally get a successor. MacRumors found an image file in Apple’s code for an unreleased Apple TV 4K (4th generation). It shows the same black box you already know, so any big changes are expected inside.

What upgrades could the new Apple TV 4K bring?

The current model of Apple TV 4K was launched in October 2022 with an A15 Bionic chip and 4GB of RAM. Its replacement is rumored to get a much faster chip, though reports differ on which one. MacRumors lists an A17 Pro or newer.

Any of these would bring hardware-accelerated ray tracing for better-looking games. RAM is also expected to double to 8GB. The extra memory could also help with gaming and Apple’s planned Siri AI features. The new Siri could handle questions, find content, and launch apps more effectively.

Apple’s N1 chip should add Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Wi-Fi 7 can use multiple bands (2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz) at once and is theoretically up to four times faster than Wi-Fi 6. A revised Siri Remote is also expected, though its changes are unclear.

When could you buy new Apple TV 4K?

Apple skipped the Apple TV at its September event, but October often brings new product launches. Pricing is the big unknown for now. In June, Apple raised the current Wi-Fi model to $199 from $129 and the Ethernet model to $249 from $149.

For now, this leak only confirms the name and design, so the rumored upgrades aren’t guaranteed. But these AI features could help the Apple TV grow beyond a simple streaming box, as Apple builds its home products around the new Siri. Still, if you’ve been holding off on a new streaming box, waiting a few more weeks may pay off.

YouTube is reworking the Home page with Custom Feeds and quicker access to Subscriptions
Saved Custom Feeds are rolling out as YouTube also experiments with a redesigned Home navigation bar.

YouTube is changing how its Home page works, giving viewers more control over what shows up there and making some of the app’s most-used sections easier to reach. Custom Feeds are now replacing the existing topic chips for eligible users, while YouTube is also testing a redesigned top bar on mobile that moves Subscriptions closer to the Home feed.

YouTube first started experimenting with Custom Feeds earlier this year, letting you type out what you wanted to watch and turning that request into its own stream of recommendations. Now, the feature is starting to look less like a side experiment and more like something YouTube actually wants people to use as part of their everyday Home page.

Skullcandy is now part of Bose, but its bold identity isn’t going anywhere
Bold style, meet big sound. Skullcandy just joined the Bose family.
Skullcandy headphone man

If you own a pair of Skullcandy earbuds, there’s a good chance you’ve already heard Bose without realizing it. Now, the two companies are making things official. Bose has bought Skullcandy, the brand that made a name for itself with eye-catching headphones and a whole lot of attitude.

This deal didn’t come out of nowhere. For the past few years, Skullcandy has been packing Bose’s audio tech into its earbuds and headphones under the Sound by Bose label. That team-up worked so well that Bose decided to go all in and bring Skullcandy into the family.

Spotify rolls out its first native car app for cable-free listening, but only Audi drivers get it for now
Spotify app on Audi

I’ve sacrificed too many charging cables to my car’s USB port (even the braided ones). All so my playlist could follow me down the road.

Spotify just launched a fully native car app that runs on the car’s infotainment system, with no phone or cable required. However, it’s only available for Audi owners right now.
