Ultron appears along with Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Captain America (Chris Evans) on the cover of the latest Entertainment Weekly as part of the magazine’s preview of Comic-Con International in San Diego, which kicks off next week. The trio is joined by an army of Ultron clones in the background of the image, offering some indication of the threat the Avengers will face this time around.
A close look at the cover also reveals a bit of playful tagging on the part of EW’s design team, with one of the Ultron clones offering up the line “Domo arigato” — a reference to the iconic Styx song “Mr. Roboto.”
Along with revealing the movie version of Ultron — set to be voiced by actor James Spader — the cover image also features the debut of the new armor Tony Stark will be wearing as Iron Man, as well as yet another redesign of Captain America’s uniform. The latest Iron Man armor appears to have reverted back to the old, circular arc reactor in the center of Tony’s chest, while Captain America’s suit is decidedly more red, white, and blue this time around.
Over on EW’s website, there are a few more images from Avengers: Age of Ultron, including the photo below of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow in her new superhero uniform (complete with larger, comics-style wrist armament), and new shots of returning characters Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), who appears to be sporting a dramatically redesigned uniform. New characters Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) also appear in the photos.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is directed by Joss Whedon and hits theaters May 1, 2015.
