Rumors of a fifth film featuring Sylvester Stallone as Vietnam War veteran John Rambo have been circulating for awhile now, with talk of various directions the series could take popping up periodically and subsequently fading from discussion. Momentum on a follow-up to 2008’s ultra-violent Rambo — which was co-written and directed by Stallone — picked up earlier in 2014 when it was announced that Stallone was indeed working on another Rambo movie, and now the film might have a title, too.
Coming Soon reports that the title of the upcoming fifth Rambo movie will be Rambo: Last Blood — a label clearly intended to connect the series back to the film that started it all, 1982’s First Blood (based on David Morrell’s novel of the same name). The site indicates that Stallone is planning to return as director of the film, reprising his role behind the camera as well as in front of it.
The project has yet to be confirmed by the studio, so the title and any potential plot details are still unofficial at this point. However, the most recent reports suggest that the fifth film will send Rambo across the border to battle a Mexican cartel.
Back in June, The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Stallone described the planned fifth installment of the franchise as his version of No Country For Old Men.
It’s worth noting that the title Rambo: Last Blood is a title shared by a bizarre, flash-based game created by The Last Of Us designer Peter Javidpour.
