30 cars scheduled for global premier at LA Auto Show

This year’s LA Auto Show may singlehandedly corner the market on silver sheets and velvet ropes.

60 total reveals are planned for the 2014 auto event, half of which have never been seen before by the public.

Automakers from all over the world are scheduled to have showcases in LA, but don’t expect a fleet of Kia Rios and Toyota Siennas to flood the showroom. The auto show confirmed today that over 63 percent of the 30 debuting vehicles will be luxury and performance vehicles.

Audi looks to be the frontrunner for 2014’s showstealer, with three global debuts and eight total unveilings. One entrant is predicted to be a four-door concept that will flaunt Audi’s new design language and preview a potential A9 flagship.

The suped-up Chrysler 300 SRT may be headed for pasture, but the revamped and refreshed Chrysler 300 and 300 C have confirmed appearances at the auto show, as has the new Cadillac ATS-V.

Land Rover has arranged the North American introduction of its new Discovery Sport crossover as well. On the other end of the spectrum, the MINI hardtop four-door and Superleggera concept are expected to be displayed.

Additionally, BMW will unmask convertible versions of the 228i and M235i, and it will do so alongside the world debuts of two new vehicles.

News models from Chevrolet (Corvette ZR1, anybody?), Mercedes, Mazda, Scion, Lexus, Volkswagen, and Porsche are slated to appear at the ceremony, and the attached Connected Car Expo will serve as an exhibit for the latest in groundbreaking automotive tech.

The 2014 LA Auto show is open to the public from November 21^st to the 30^th. Each of the 60 reveals is scheduled for the event’s press and trade days, which are November 18^th, 19^th, and 20^th.

But a new study reveals that you can skip all the fancy stuff and go with a very simple solution, Researchers from the University of Cambridge found that putting the battery under the right amount of pressure actually helps.

The study was about how physical pressure affects lithium-ion battery life, which found that keeping cells under constant pressure could double their lifespan. The work was published in Nature Energy, and the team says the improvement came without changing the active materials, electrolyte, or basic battery chemistry.
