A new challenger appears: Velocity Micro enters laptop gaming arena

Built-to-order PC manufacturer Velocity Micro has announced the introduction of its upcoming line of custom laptops at CES 2015. This will put it in direct competition with the likes of Alienware, Origin, Digital Storm and others.

While there isn’t exactly a glut of technical details revealed in the company’s press release, Velocity Micro did divulge the core aspects of each model it plans to release, and should be sharing more specs as time goes on.

First on the podium is the Raptor MX70, which starts at $1,999 and goes up from there depending on your unique build. It features a 17.3-inch 1080p LED display, powered by either an NVIDIA 965M, 970M, or 980M, along with an integrated front-facing camera, a fingerprint scanner, and a backlit keyboard.

Next is the smaller, lighter, mainstream MX50. This model is equipped with a 15.6-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS screen which can be switched to a 4K panel if you’re willing to drop a little extra dough. The processor and graphics options are the same as the MX70.

Lastly there’s the NoteMagix M17, which starts with basic specifications spectrum and can be worked up from there. Its 17.3-inch FHD LED screen runs off an NVIDIA GTX 850M, stocked with the company’s new Optimus technology that gets you the best of what it’s got to work with every time you boot up a new game.

We’re still waiting on a release date for the first two (rumors speculate sometime later this month), but the NoteMagix M17 is available on VelocityMicro’s site right now, starting at $1,149.
