Spoilers: Pictures and info emerge of the 2016 Lincoln MKX prior to its Detroit debut

A recent update on Lincoln Motor Company’s regional Canadian site spilled the beans, along with some photos, of the 2016 Lincoln MKX prior to its debut this Tuesday at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The errant post has since been pulled off the site, but the diligent forum members of fordinsidenews.com managed to snag some key info.

First off, the  exterior retains the general profile of the MKX concept that debuted last year at the Beijing Auto Show, but having a more “shrink-wrapped” look on the door panels. The production MKX also gets fully adapable HID headlamps with available LED accents, as well as a less bold chrome accent by the lower air intake, giving it a more conventional appearance that doesn’t look like the front of Iron Man’s helmet.

The only info leaked regarding powertrain was that the MKX will sport the new 2.7-liter six-cylinder ecoboost that will also power the 2015 Ford F-150 and Edge Sport. The engine is capable of producing a decent 325 horsepower and 375 pound-feet of torque.

Surprisingly, the images of the infotainment screen indicate that the Lincoln MKX will carry over the current MyLincolnTouch interface and not Ford’s new Sync 3 system, however that could easily be changed by the time the midsize SUV hits dealer lots. Feature-wise, the leaked info states that there will be an available 360-degree parking camera available.

This isn’t the whole boat of info Lincoln Mo. Co. plans to drop during the official unveiling at Detroit, so we expect to confirm these details and more on Tuesday.

The front three-quarter view of a 2022 Rivian against a rocky backdrop.

Rivian has finally unveiled the R2, its long-awaited attempt at a more affordable electric SUV. The new vehicle may not be available just yet, but fans of Rivian's design aesthetics and feature set are already looking forward to being able to order the new car. The R2 is targeted at being a more affordable take on the electric SUV and will sit alongside the flagship-tier R1S.

Let's get this out of the way right now: The R1S is most likely going to be a better vehicle than the R2. Rivian isn't replacing the R1S with the R2 — it's releasing the R2 as a more affordable alternative, and there will be some compromises when buying the R2 over the R1S.

2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 N drifting.

We’re finally getting to the fun part of automakers’ methodical quest to replicate their lineups with electric cars.

Performance versions of ordinary cars have been a staple of the auto industry for decades.
