BMW to reveal ‘elegant’ and ‘athletic’ 3.0 CSL hommage concept later this month

With information leaks and rumors, it’s a rarity that an automaker can send a press release and the contents are a genuine surprise, but that’s exactly what happened when BMW announced today that it will reveal a new Hommage Concept later this month at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

BMW hasn’t revealed a new homage concept since the 328 Hommage in 2011, but on May 22, the German automaker will introduce the 3.0 CSL Hommage to the world. The design concept has been made as a tribute the “a timeless classic and iconic BMW Coupe from the 1970s.”

The company says it built the 3.0 CSL Hommage with a lightweight design and high-performance capabilities to signify the engineering achievement of the brand. “Cutting edge” materials are used in its construction, and while specific materials aren’t listed, we can probably expect extensive use of carbon fiber, a signature BMW move of the last couple years.

BMW claims the 3.0 CSL Hommage’s design “exudes sheer dynamics,” including “striking air deflectors, powerful wheel arches, and a prominent roof and rear spoiler.” Other exciting words used by BMW’s marketing team to describe the new concept include, “exclusive,” “confident,” and “athletic.” Without seeing the model, I’ll now attempt to conjure up some verbiage of my own: “fierce,” “sensual,” and “orga …uh … organic.” Not bad, huh?

As for the interior, the 3.0 CSL Hommage apparently will show its lightweight character inside with each element of the cabin being absolutely “essential.” I’m personally a big fan of functional design and visible mechanics, so this might be the most exciting bit in my eyes.

Besides the singular teaser image we’ve been provided, we’ll have to use our imaginations as to how the 3.0 CSL Hommage will shape up when it’s revealed on the 22nd.
