Oculus Connect 2 developer conference announced for September 23 to 25

Oculus may not be releasing a product until 2016, but the second half of 2015 is going to be a busy time for the company anyway. E3 is on the way, the company announced a pre-E3 press event, and now Oculus has announced a second Connect developers conference.

Oculus Connect will return to the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Hollywood, CA from September 23 to 25, the Facebook-owned company announced in a post on its blog Thursday. The post mentions that over 1,000 attended the previous event, but considering the traction that Oculus has gained over the last year, it will likely see bigger numbers this year.

The company promises that Oculus Connect 2 will cover “everything developers need to know to launch on the Rift and Gear VR.” The conference will feature keynotes from computer graphics pioneers and Oculus brain trust members John Carmack, Michael Abrash, and CEO Brandon Iribe. The post doesn’t say as much, but it’s a near certainty that the latest version of the Oculus Rift will be on hand for demos.

If the recently announced system requirements are any indication, as the Rift gets closer to its 2016 release, we’ll be seeing even more impressive tech demos and applications. You’ll be able to see much more than that, if you’re so inclined, as the company recently stated that it won’t block porn on its VR headset.

While it has some impressive names working on it, Oculus has some healthy competition in the VR field. Sony and Valve are working on their own VR systems, but it isn’t just the big dogs that Oculus needs to worry about. Earlier this week we reported on the Fove, which adds eye-tracking to make for a more realistic VR experience.

If you’re interested in attending the event, you can’t sign up yet, but applications to attend will be available on the Oculus Connect website starting in June.

A three person squad stands on a bridge in Ghost Recon Frontline.

If you're a Ghost Recon fan, you've probably gotten used to one thing over the past few years: waiting for rumors to turn into announcements, waiting for leaks to be acknowledged, waiting for Ubisoft to say... well, anything at all about the future of one of its biggest tactical shooter franchises. Thankfully, that silence finally seems to be ending.

Ubisoft has confirmed that it will share Ghost Recon news on August 6, when the series celebrates its 25th anniversary. The announcement arrived shortly after fresh leaks began circulating online, prompting the company to post a brief message telling fans that more information is just around the corner.

The AI game-dev boom has a dark side: fewer jobs for the people starting out
Solo creators are thriving with tools like Claude Code and Copilot, but entry-level game roles are disappearing.

AI is making it easier than ever for a single person to build a game. That sounds like a win for creativity, and in many ways, it absolutely is. But there is a catch. As generative AI tools help solo developers and small studios do more with fewer people, the same shift is making life tougher for writers, artists, concept creators, and junior programmers trying to break into the gaming industry.
