Mad Max game trailer lets the blood flow

Mad Max: Fury Road is currently in theaters, and George Miller’s long-awaited return to the series is already being called one of the year’s best films. But there’s another Mad Max coming out this year — the game — and Avalanche Studios has released a new story trailer, showing off several elements from the recent film and quite a talkative Max Rockatansky.

“Life is a savage road,” Max remarks. “Out here, a man with no wheels is a man with no hope.” And with that line, he has already spoken about as much as he did in The Road Warrior and Fury Road combined

Unlike in Fury Road, Max appears to be by himself for much of the upcoming game, but it looks like he will be getting some help from one of the desolate wasteland’s sick, pale “War Boys,” who aids him in replacing his car. The majority of the crazed militants serve the muscle-bound warlord Scrotus, attacking with the traditional Mad Max armored vehicles as well as grenade-tipped spears. Max, on the other hand, is equipped with his signature sawed-off shotgun and various vehicular weapons such as the harpoon and the “demolition kill grill.”

With so much emphasis put on the War Boys, their desire for human fuel appears to feature prominently. “It’s time to let the people know, and the blood flow,” one says as he holds up a human “blood bag.” This is a clear nod to Fury Road, but it will be interesting to see how Avalanche Studios can put all the pieces together. The film is a breakneck sprint from beginning to end, and with the game obviously being several times longer, one hopes that the developers are holding a few more surprises up their sleeves to keep the game from retreading too many moments. Except for the fire-spewing guitar — they can use that as much as they want.

Mad Max launches on September 1 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Google executive ports Command & Conquer Generals: Zero Hour to iPhone and Mac using Claude
A classic PC RTS is now running natively on iPhone, and Claude helped make it happen

AI-powered game development has recently been blamed for flooding app stores with low-effort mobile games, but every now and then, the technology produces a far more interesting result. Google lead product and design executive Ammar Reshi says he used Fable 5 to port Command & Conquer Generals Zero Hour to the iPhone and iPad.

This is not an emulator or a cloud-streamed version. According to Reshi’s GitHub page, the actual 2003 game engine has been compiled natively for ARM64 and runs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. The project uses EA’s GPL source release and builds on existing community work, while adding the iOS and iPadOS port.

Prototypist Keyboy Advance, a Gameboy Advanced inspired keyboard

For many people who grew up in the early 2000s, the Game Boy Advance was the handheld they carried everywhere. The Keyboy Advance is trying to bring some of that nostalgia to a modern desk, using the wide, landscape-style silhouette of Nintendo’s 2001 handheld as the basis for a compact mechanical keyboard kit. It is not an official Nintendo product, but the visual references are easy to spot.
