The new trailer for Ash vs. Evil Dead begins in much the same way as the one that premiered during Comic-Con International in San Diego a few months ago, but then features some fresh — and very, very bloody — scenes of Ash and his team stabbing, shooting, and otherwise dispatching a host of supernatural creatures. The series, which picks up years after the events of 1992’s Army of Darkness, is clearly staying the course as far as over-the-top gore and black humor, interspersing shots of Ash wielding his shotgun and trademark chainsaw while cracking jokes and generally being the eternally overconfident horror icon that he is.
Ash vs. Evil Dead unfolds as a new plague of demonic forces threatens the world once again and forces Ash to come out of retirement 30 years after he last saved the world. Along with Campbell as the titular hero, the series’ cast features Lucy Lawless (Spartacus) as a mysterious character named Ruby who believes Ash is the cause of the demonic invasion, and Ray Santiago (Meet the Fockers) as idealistic immigrant Pablo Simon Bolivar, who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick. The cast also includes Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas), Jill Marie Jones (Sleepy Hollow), and Mimi Rogers (Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery).
Evil Dead franchise director Sam Raimi (Spider-Man, Drag Me To Hell) will direct the first episode of the 10-part series, which he co-wrote with his brother and longtime collaborator Ivan Raimi (Drag Me To Hell) and Tom Spezialy (Chuck). Raimi and Campbell serve as executive producers and showrunners on the series along with Rob Tapert (Evil Dead) and Craig DiGregorio (Chuck).
Ash vs. Evil Dead premieres Halloween night (Oct. 31) on Starz.
