Visual Supply Co., more affectionately referred to as VSCO, has built an empire around its impressive collection of film emulation presets. To date, the Oakland-based company offers seven complete collections of film presets for desktop editing software, each of which encompasses a specific collection of presets inspired by various film stocks, both new and old.

Individually, these preset packs sell for $59, which seems a fair price to pay for the amount of work that’s gone into each respective pack. The problem is, it’ll take some thought to figure out what specific pack best fits your needs as a photographer, because different packs work best depending on the style of photography they’re being used on.

To prevent buyer’s remorse, VSCO has put together a little sampler pack for newbies just getting into the game. Appropriately titled “VSCO Film Essentials,” the pack features a hand-selected collection of the most popular film emulations from each of the seven complete collections VSCO offers.

Below are the film stock emulations included in the pack, sorted by the complete package they represent:

Film 01

  • TRI-X
  • Kodak Portra 800

Film 02

  • Fuji Neopan 1600
  • Kodak Portra 400 UC

Film 03

How to transfer photos from an iPhone to an iPhone

We all love making memories, and a great way to collect those memories is to take a quick snap of a gorgeous landscape, a party in full swing, or a particularly incredible meal. The Apple iPhone now also adds a location to your pictures, meaning it can collate those images together into a location-themed album, or show you all the shots you've taken in a specific location. It's a fun little addition, and it's one that adds a lot of personality to the Photos app.
