Netflix’s new ‘Stranger Things’ trailer is full of supernatural mysteries

Netflix seems to have big things in mind for Stranger Things. The streaming service released a second trailer for the upcoming supernatural series today, something it rarely does leading up to a television show’s premiere.

The streamer’s high hopes for the mystery-filled series seem warranted. Based on the two previews we’ve seen to date, Stranger Things does indeed seem to be the “love letter to the supernatural ’80s classics” that Netflix intended it to be. Not only does the show offer a compelling mystery, it looks creepy without being cheesy.

Although the latest trailer isn’t quite as chilling as the first, there are plenty of eerie moments as multiple mysteries begin to unfold. The disappearance of a young boy named Will gets the ball rolling, but the arrival of a young girl raises still more questions. “Do you really think it was a coincidence that we found her the same place where Will disappeared?” one of Will’s friends asks in the preview.

A top-secret government facility is somehow involved, which is made clear in the trailer. At one point, a man who works there ominously says that the girl couldn’t have gone far, and a command is issued to track her down. Other young girls also make brief appearances, but there isn’t any kind of explanation as to how they’re related.

There seem to be a lot of layers to the plot of Stranger Things, and the actors are highly convincing. Winona Ryder stars along with David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton, and Matthew Modine. Brothers Matt and Ross Duffer serve as the writers, directors, and co-showrunners of the series. They also executive produce alongside Dan Cohen and Shawn Levy, who directs as well.

Stranger Things hits Netflix on July 15.
