Canva enters the AI image generation race with Craft, and it’s thinking beyond pretty pictures

AI can generate all kinds of pretty pictures, but getting it to spell a headline correctly or keep a poster’s layout intact can be another story. Canva wants to fix that with Canva Craft, its first in-house image generation model. Rather than focusing primarily on photographs, Craft is designed around the posters, presentations, social media graphics, and other visual content people actually create. The goal is simple: spend less time fixing AI’s mistakes and more time making something useful.

Canva Craft plans before it generates

Craft uses a two-stage process. First, it interprets a prompt and plans the image’s layout, including object placement, scale, visual hierarchy, and text. It then generates the image at up to 2K resolution, supporting 30 aspect ratios for different formats. Canva says this approach helps produce more accurate details and readable text while allowing users to edit specific elements without unintentionally changing the rest of the image.

The model was trained on millions of human-created Canva templates, including menus, posters, infographics, presentations, and typography-heavy designs, rather than relying primarily on photographs. That focus could make Craft particularly useful for marketing graphics and social posts, where getting the words and layout right matters as much as the imagery. Its output can also be converted into layered, editable designs using Canva’s Magic Layers technology.

Craft is coming to more than Canva

Craft is available through Canva’s Dream Lab, with access subject to the platform’s account and usage limits. Developers can also access it through Canva’s API, while integrations with third-party AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini are planned through Canva’s MCP. The company is also developing two faster, more cost-efficient variants called Craftfast and Craft-ultrafast.

Canva is entering a crowded field dominated by image models from OpenAI, Google, and other AI companies. But its focus isn’t simply generating impressive images. If Craft can reliably produce visuals that are ready to use rather than needing an hour of cleanup, Canva could make AI a genuinely useful design assistant instead of another source of creative busywork.

Windows 11 could get a serious performance boost, but there’s a catch
Microsoft is working on a new Windows 11 feature that could make compatible PCs faster and more efficient.
Windows 11 Laptop

Who wouldn't want their Windows PC to run faster without spending money on new hardware? Well, Microsoft appears to be working on something that could improve performance and efficiency on future PCs. However, before you get too excited, there's an important catch.

Windows Insider Xeno recently spotted a new setting, Advanced Performance Extensions (APX), in Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 29695. Microsoft is currently testing the feature in its experimental development channel, and it could eventually help compatible processors handle demanding tasks more efficiently. The setting lets Windows take advantage of Intel's APX technology, but it requires a system restart after you enable it. While that might sound like another ordinary Windows toggle, what happens behind the scenes is much more interesting.

NVIDIA’s RTX Spark could be the best thing to happen to Qualcomm Snapdragon
A rising tide lifts all laptops. Even rivals.

When I attended Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit a couple of weeks ago, I kept coming back to one question: What does Windows on Arm need to become a mainstream alternative to traditional Windows laptops? Qualcomm has spent years making Arm-based Windows PCs faster, more capable, and increasingly difficult to dismiss. But, you see, good hardware can only do so much when software compatibility, gaming support, and developer interest still need work, right?

Then I spent time with NVIDIA’s RTX Spark, and my first reaction was that Qualcomm might have a problem.

Fun mac apps

Some Mac apps are great at what they do but aren’t much to look at. Others look beautiful and still get the job done. But once in a while, you find an app that not only performs its task well but is also fun to use, and those are my favorite kind of apps. In this guide, I am going to show you three Mac apps I discovered this year that are both useful and fun to use.
