The full screen view is meant to be used in writing mode, stripping the page of typical Word formatting toolbars and allowing the writer to focus purely on the page, without distraction. It sounds a lot like what niche providers such as Dark Room have capitalized on.

Significantly, this update will see Office for Mac say goodbye to Entourage in favor of Outlook. The update also boasts that the performance speed of the applications has been boosted. That will be a welcome change to power users of both Excel and Powerpoint.
