Office for Mac 2011 coming this October

office for mac 2011The modifications are largely aesthetic in form with a new full screen view in Word 2011. The full screen view is meant to be used in writing mode, stripping the page of typical Word formatting toolbars and allowing the writer to focus purely on the page, without distraction. It sounds a lot like what niche providers such as Dark Room have capitalized on.

Significantly, this update will see Office for Mac say goodbye to Entourage in favor of Outlook. The update also boasts that the performance speed of the applications has been boosted. That will be a welcome change to power users of both Excel and Powerpoint.

This is the latest revamp of Office for Mac since January 2008. Pre-orders are being taken at Amazon.com. The Mac Home and Student Edition is listed at $119.99 while the Mac Home and Business Edition is being sold for $199.99

The MacBook Air just got a huge price cut
The gold MacBook Air M1's logo and keyboard.

Apple doesn't currently sell the M1 MacBook Air, meaning its price at third-party retailers is constantly in flux. But in time for back-to-school season, (and ahead of Prime Day next week), Apple and Walmart have announced that it's being sold at a surprising new starting price of $649. These aren't refurbished or preowned laptops, either -- at least, not according to the listing.

Of course, this is the M1 model, the first Apple Silicon MacBook -- which means it uses an older chassis than the newer M2 or M3 models. This is also the base configuration, meaning it only comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Walmart has all three colors on offer at this price too -- Space Gray, Silver, and Gold.

Don’t wait for macOS Sequoia. This app already has its best feature
Apple's Craig Federighi introducing the new window tiling feature in macOS Sequoia at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024.

When Apple lifted the shroud on macOS Sequoia at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, there were a lot of headline announcements: Apple Intelligence, iPhone mirroring, a new Passwords app, plus a whole lot more. Yet it was the much more modest announcement of window snapping and tiling that really caught my eye.

For years, Windows users have been able to point to the lack of macOS window snapping as proof of the inferiority of Apple’s operating system. After all, if Apple couldn’t even get such a simple productivity feature right, what else was it failing at?
