If your Windows PC has ever refused to boot, you know the panic that follows. You scramble to find another computer, download the Windows installer, and create a bootable USB drive just to get your machine running again. Microsoft wants to end that headache with a new feature called Cloud Rebuild.

As reported by Windows Central, Cloud Rebuild lets you perform a full reinstall of Windows 11 without USB media or a custom image. Better yet, it doesn’t depend on your current installation being healthy, so it can even rescue a PC that won’t start.

How is Cloud Rebuild different from Cloud Download?

Windows 11 already has a Cloud Download recovery option, so you might wonder what’s new. Cloud Rebuild goes a step further by downloading both a fresh copy of Windows and your device drivers from Windows Update, and it works even when your system is too broken to boot.

You also get a drive sanitization option. Before Windows reinstalls, you can choose to simply remove your files or securely erase them using your storage hardware’s erase capability. Just remember that sanitization is irreversible, so choose wisely. IT administrators can even start a rebuild remotely, which should make life easier for office tech teams.

How can you use Cloud Rebuild?

If Windows still starts, go to Settings → System → Recovery and click Rebuild PC. Your PC will restart into the Windows Recovery Environment and begin the process.

If Windows can’t start, your PC will enter the Windows Recovery Environment automatically after repeated failed boot attempts. From there, select Troubleshoot → Recovery and uninstall → Cloud rebuild.

Next, connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet, review the Windows build, edition, and language, and confirm the data loss warning to get started.

When can you get it?

Cloud Rebuild is available with the optional KB5127936 update for Windows 11 and should reach everyone soon, since it performs a full reinstall. Back up your important files beforehand and keep your PC plugged in during the process.

If it works as promised, you may never need to create a recovery USB drive again, and that’s a win in my book.

Along with these changes, the company also announced something far more significant for third-party developers: it is finally letting them use Siri AI more deeply, opening up capabilities previously limited to a narrow set of supported actions. The company released a new developer preview that lets apps handle more complex requests, including booking restaurant reservations, checking deliveries, and placing orders. All by simply asking Siri.

[UPDATE] Google is making schools choose between AI and access to its Search engine
Google is using its Search dominance to armtwist schools into accepting AI
Google Search

[UPDATE: Google has clarified that educators can choose to disable any of the AI products, independent of Google Search. Here is what the company shared in a post on X: Schools are in control: They can choose to turn ON one, two, or all of these services individually. The original story is as follows]

Google says it wants to give schools more control over how students use AI. But its proposed solution comes with a rather extraordinary condition: schools that opt to block AI entirely will also lose access to Google Search on student accounts. The conclusion is that schools can say no to Google’s AI, but they may have to give up one of the most fundamental tools students use to learn and research online.
