HP Black Friday Sale slashes hundreds off Spectre laptops and more

Retailers are already off to the races for Black Friday, which means that the 2019 holiday shopping season is now officially in full swing. HP always throws its hat into the ring with these big sales – for example, we saw some huge summer promos from HP this year in an attempt to compete with Amazon Prime Day – and the PC maker and retailer also has plenty of deals in store for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. We’ve already rounded up our favorite picks from the lot and compiled them right here, so if your holiday shopping is already underway, then read on.

HP is a brand that all PC users are familiar with and is rivaled only by a few other computer makers when it comes to sheer longevity. Formerly known as Hewlett-Packard, HP built its name and reputation on reliable business-focused Windows PCs, but in recent years, the company has been busy churning out some fantastic cutting-edge ultrabooks, touchscreen laptops, 2-in-1s, and gaming machines (while still of course offering plenty of no-frills desktops and laptops for students and professionals).

A number of our favorite modern laptops bear the HP badge, especially the Spectre x360 series, while the Pavilion and Envy lineups both feature a wide range of excellent laptops and desktop PCs to fit most needs and budgets. Models from pretty much every HP brand are on sale for Black Friday, too, and if you’re just looking for the best of the bunch, then we’ve already combed through the sale offerings and have gathered up a handful into a handy list to help you save some time and cash.

HP Black Friday Deals

HP Spectre x360 13 (late 2018)
Mark Coppock/Digital Trends
  • HP Spectre x360 13t Touchscreen Laptop – The HP Spectre x360 13t has long been one of our favorite 2-in-1 ultrabooks, and if you’re in the market for the best convertible touchscreen laptop out there, this is a strong contender. They’re pricey, but this 13-inch model is on sale for its lowest price ever with a $350 discount bringing it down to just $800 through Black Friday only.
  • HP Laptop 15t  – HP’s bread and butter has always been its budget-friendly work PCs for us normal folks, and this solid 15-inch Windows laptop fits that bill perfectly. It’s one of the best deals during the HP Black Friday sale as well, packing a 10th-gen Intel Core i7 CPU and ringing in at a super-affordable $500 after a very nice 62% savings of $850.
  • HP Omen RTX Studio Gaming Laptop – HP may be best-known for its business PCs, but the brand isn’t afraid to have fun with some gaming laptops like the Omen RTX Studio. This beefy gaming machine comes loaded with an i7 CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 graphics processor that will easily run the latest games at good settings. A tidy $400 Black Friday discount cuts the price down to $1,500.
  • HP Pavilion 17t Gaming Laptop  – With its 17-inch display, the HP Pavilion 17t gaming laptop could stand in for a regular desktop, especially with its 9th-generation Intel i5 processor and Nvidia GTX 1050 GPU. It won’t cost you a fortune, though, as the HP Black Friday sale lets you score it for $630 and save $220.
  • HP Envy x360 15t Touchscreen Laptop  – We don’t love it quite as much as we do the Spectre, but the HP Envy is hard to argue with at this price if you’re looking for a modern touchscreen ultrabook. Even better is that this discounted HP Envy X360 15t packs one of the newer 10th-generation Intel Core i5 CPUs; on top of that, you’re also getting 16GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. That’s a pretty killer deal at $579 ($320 off).
  • HP Pavilion Desktop  – Laptops are great, but desktops are still the king of the office, and the HP Pavilion PC delivers great performance at an excellent price point with an i7 processor, 2TB HDD, and 256GB SSD. Normally $1,000, this workhorse can be yours for $700 for the duration of the HP Black Friday sale.
  • HP EliteBook 850 G5 Laptop – The EliteBook line has been a staple in the “business PC” category for a while now (and is one of few worthy competitors to the iconic ThinkPad), and this EliteBook 850 G5 is your chance to grab a serious professional-grade laptop for $842 – considerably cheaper than its $2,400 sticker price.
  • HP Omen Obelisk Desktop Gaming PC – With a 9th-gen Intel Core i5 liquid-cooled CPU and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 Super graphics card, the Omen Obelisk is one of the best gaming desktops you’re going to find for a grand. Especially with this Black Friday deal, that is, which knocks $400 off its normal $1,400 price tag.

Many of these holiday sales start early and the HP Black Friday sale is no exception, kicking off on Thursday, November 28 (Thanksgiving day). Along with the PC deals above, there are also some juicy discounts on things like monitors and accessories, so be sure to head on over to the sale page here to check out all the offerings if our roundup whetted your appetite for savings.

HP Spectre x360 13.5 hands-on review: Refinements that matter
The HP Specre x360 13.5 inch sitting on a table.

I've always loved the HP Spectre x360 lineup. With its gem-cut edges and beautiful 3:2 aspect ratio OLED screens, it has been the top of the top when it comes to Windows 2-in-1s. So, how can HP make that perfect device even better?

Its answer isn't to throw out the old design but instead to make some subtle refinements to the formula. The new 13.5-inch model takes the place of the previous Spectre x360 14, though it's only the marketing that's changed. Both devices use a 13.5-inch screen and sport very similar dimensions.

New HP Spectre x360 16 ditches Nvidia, embraces Intel Arc
The new HP Spectre x360 16 in use on a desk.

The rollout of Intel's highly anticipated discrete GPUs has been slow and confusing. But today, they just scored a big win with the announcement that HP's most premium laptop, the Spectre x360 16, will be sold with Intel's Arc instead of Nvidia's RTX graphics.

The new Spectre x360 16 comes with an option for an Arc A370M on board, in addition to an option for Iris Xe graphics for the $1,650 base configuration. The Arc A370M comes with 4GB of GDDR6 dedicated memory. That is on top of the 16GB or 32GB of onboard device RAM, as well as the up to 2TB NVMe solid-state drive on the device.

Why I passed on $500 off the MacBook Pro for a MacBook Air on Black Friday
Macbook Air M1 logo.

The MacBook Pro 13 is $500 off at Best Buy right now, which would normally be too good of a deal to ignore. But I passed on it in favor of saving $150 on the MacBook Air, which is a machine that normally isn't as powerful as its Pro counterpart. This year, however, things are different.
