Blockbuster Deepens Commitment to Gaming

Blockbuster Deepens Commitment to Gaming

With video game sales breaking records in recent months and the high-profile release of Grand Theft Auto IV just around the corner, Blockbuster has announced that it will significantly expand its game business. Although the major rental chain already offers games, the shift will bring a broader selection of games to rent, more copies, as well as games for purchase, and hardware.

"We’re committed to offering a full assortment of everything gamers want in our stores – hardware, accessories and retail and rental games across all platforms,” said Rod Murray, Blockbuster’s vice-president of games merchandising, in a statement.

All corporate-owned Blockbuster chains will now carry retail games and hardware for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, as well as Nintendo Wii and DS. Hot new rentals, such as Mario Kart for Wii, will make it to Blockbuster’s new releases wall in a section just for games.

The company will even introduce console bundles unique to its stores. The first, a PS3 game and movie bundle, offers consumers a 40GB PS3 system, remote, HDMI cable, Spiderman 3 on Blu-ray, the Transformers PS3 game, and a card for up to 12 free movie or game rentals.

With its final DLC, Mario Kart 8 cements its legacy as a multiplayer classic
mario kart 8 deluxe final dlc analysis diddy kong in

I never truly realized how genius Nintendo's Mario Kart formula is until I got borderline obsessed with mastering Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Like Mario Kart Wii, this is a game where you can either pick up casually or go hardcore , learning everything to try to increase your online VR points and reach higher ranks.

If that was enough to make Mario Kart Wii the best entry in the series for its time, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has taken the series to new heights throughout its nearly decade-long life span. With its final Booster Course DLC out now, Nintendo has finally cemented the kart racer as one of the best multiplayer games of all time. Period.
Reaching perfection
Mario Kart 8 was originally released on Nintendo's Wii U system and made a splash as one of the system's big sellers -- for all that's worth. When the Nintendo Switch released, Nintendo quickly capitalized by rereleasing Mario Kart 8 with a new Deluxe subtitle. That would bring new content and modes, as well as a long-tailed DLC plan once it became clear it was going to be one of the Switch's biggest hits.
