NHL 15 title update adds missing Playoff Mode, Three Stars, and more

The first of the promised, free content updates for EA Sports’ NHL 15 is available now for download on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

The update adds Playoff Mode, an offline bracket tournament for up to 16 teams that you can select from the NHL or up to 12 different leagues. You can play out or simulate every game and track stats on the players and teams over the course of the tournament. Coach Feedback will provide a breakdown of your performance between shifts, giving you tips on how to improve your play. Specific grades are awarded for Position, Team Play, and Stats to help guide your progress. At the end of each game you will also now see the pro hockey standby, 3 Stars, giving stats for the top three players in a given match.

Finally, Hockey Ultimate Team has been updated with new layouts and improved menus. There are new animations for player items, and an improved edit lines screen to help you identify players with injuries or in need of contract extensions.

More free updates are coming down the pipe, including the addition of Online Team Play and a GM Rookie Draft for the Be a GM mode. These and Playoff Mode will help address our main concern about the game’s lack of content relative to its previous iterations.

Razer has partnered with Sam Altman's World to help distinguish real players from bots in multiplayer experiences. Bots in multiplayer games are nothing new; in fact, many games benefit from giving players AI-controlled bots to play against when there aren't enough human players to fill a server. However, bots can also be too skilled and nearly impossible to defeat, or worse: they could be farming bots that do nothing but spam the game and ruin player experiences.

Razer ID verified by World ID is designed to designate users as humans and provide assurance that you're playing against another person, rather than a bot. It's built on the World Network, an existing blockchain system that uses iris scans to verify identity.

If there's one thing nearly every developer loves to include in games, it's secrets. Not every game has them, but most have at least a few easter eggs, secret bosses, secret levels, or even secret endings that give us more reasons to stay engrossed in their worlds. As much as we love extra challenges, sometimes we want a bit of an edge ourselves. Secret weapons are the best reward for going the extra mile in a game, whether it be taking on the most difficult challenge or solving a cryptic puzzle. These can be funny gag weapons, incredibly overpowered, or even both. There are a few times when secret weapons are not worth the effort so we've hand-picked only the coolest secret weapons in video game history.
Scarab Gun - Halo 2

In terms of ground combat, there's nothing more terrifying in the Halo universe than the Scarab. These bug-like walking tanks were introduced in Halo 2 and feature a devastating main cannon that projects a massive plasma beam. One mission features you jumping aboard a Scarab to take it down from the inside, but you can never actually turn its own weapon against the Covenant. Well, if you do the work to reach a very hidden area that involves luring a banshee through a tunnel and boarding it to fly all the way up to a rooftop you were never meant to reach normally, you can find a very special Plasma Rifle. While it looks like a normal weapon, it shoots the same plasma beam as the Scarab.
