Free online multiplayer for every PS4 this weekend

Sony is offering a free weekend of online multiplayer gaming to everyone with a PlayStation 4, giving a tantalizing taste of what PlayStation Plus has to offer. From 12:01am on Friday, September 26, 2014 through 11:59pm on Sunday, September 28 (Pacific time) all you have to do is load up any game with online multiplayer while your console is connected to the internet and have at it. This will give you a chance to try out the multiplayer components of recent titles like Destiny, Madden 15, and Diablo III.

If you catch the online multiplayer bug and want more past this weekend, check out some of the other features that a PlayStation Plus subscription includes, like free and discounted games and cloud saving. Subscriptions cost around $50 per year, but various retailers offer occasional discounts if you keep a sharp eye out.

3 PlayStation Plus games to play this weekend (February 28-March 2)

The last weekend of the month is always a bit of an awkward spot. While most of us will be diving deep into Monster Hunter Wilds, the rest of us are in a bit of a holding pattern until the next set of PlayStation Plus games hit the service on Tuesday. We already know what those will be, but you will still need some games to play over the weekend. March itself isn't as packed with massive upcoming PS5 games besides Assassin's Creed: Shadows, so this is the perfect time to check out some of the amazing games on Plus that you might not have given a shot when first released.

Activision has been teasing a Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3+4 reveal for months now, but we will finally learn what exactly is happening with this franchise on March 4 when the countdown timer ticks down. Ratings and leaks have all but confirmed it will be what we all expect, but if you want to get your skateboarding fix early, Session: Skate Sim is your best option on Plus without any Tony Hawk games on the service. As the name suggests, this is more of a skating sim than an arcade game like Tony Hawk, but still a cool take on the game that plays like one of those old '90s skateboarding videos using a low-angle, fish-eye lens perspective. There are no goals or objectives so the amount of fun you get out of it is completely up to you.

Six years after its initial release, Sayonara Wild Hearts is back and better than ever. As announced during the 2025 Annapurna Interactive Showcase, developer Simogo’s playable pop album is getting PlayStation 5 version as of today. The upgraded Sayonara Wild Hearts packs a surprising punch thanks to a few stellar additions, making it the perfect time to revisit this stylish gem or try it out for the first time.

Before we dig into the meat of Sayonara Wild Hearts’ PS5 version, let’s go through the more technical additions. First off, if you already own it on another PS4, you can upgrade your copy for free. The PS5 version adds support for 4K resolution at 120 frames per second, which will make the dazzling neon color palette really pop. Simogo has also implemented haptic feedback through the DualSense controller, though in my experience this feature felt a little underwhelming. There are a few rumbles in tune with the music but nothing that takes advantage of the more complex adaptive triggers of the DualSense.
