A Game of Blocks: Bran Stark shows you around the ever-growing Minecraft Westeros

Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran Stark on HBO’s Game of Thrones, narrates this new trailer for WesterosCraft, a massive, fan-made recreation of George R. R. Martin’s fantastical world within the confines of Minecraft.

The project started a few years ago, and through the steady work of hundreds of dedicated fans over countless hours, it has grown to about the size of Los Angeles. Any location you can think of, from Castle Black on The Wall down to the Sunspear in Dorne, has been built in loving and thorough detail.

Anyone that owns Minecraft can download the custom launcher for free and explore to their heart’s content. Prospective builders, however, need to send in an application, including samples of previous work–there will be no random, giant genitals built by trolls to mar this obsessive fan project. Even if you have no interest in building, it behooves any fan of the books or television show to spend a few hours getting lost in this stunning and massive opus.

Work continues apace on the world, as project lead Jacob Granberry told Kotaku:

“I would say the world is at around 70% completion. Since we last spoke, we’ve developed a custom launcher for the game that comes packed with our WesterosBlocks mod which includes over 50 new custom blocks and textures specifically made for our server. So, we completely repainted our map with new textures, and some of our old builds we are building over bigger, better, and more realistic. That Kings Landing render from a few years ago? Yea, we are remaking that entire city again.”

Summer Game Fest’s show-stealer isn’t the game you’re expecting
An alien structure appears in Cocoon.

There was no shortage of exciting games at this year's Summer Game Fest. Geoff Keighley's annual live stream featured excellent trailers from games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Sonic Superstars. As part of that event, Keighley also hosted a two-day in-person event where press and content creators got to go hands-on with some of the games featured during the showcase and this year's Day of the Devs stream. Digital Trends was on hand for the event, and we demoed a wealth of high-profile games, from Alan Wake 2 to Mortal Kombat 1.

The game that's stuck out most so far, though, perhaps isn't the one you're expecting: Cocoon.
