Star Wars Battlefront returns to the source

EA kicked off its 2014 E3 presentation with a behind-the-scenes look at the development of DICE’s upcoming Star Wars: Battlefront. The Swedish developers are fans first and foremost, and the trailer focuses on their efforts to honor the films’ legacy and create the Star Wars game that they have dreamed about for their entire lives.

In order to stay true to the core of the Star Wars universe, Lucasfilm has granted DICE unprecedented access to the actual models and props used in the original films. They have also returned to the films’ original locations to capture their precise look and feel. Their effort seem to be paying off, as the limited in-game footage they showed really looks like it could have been lifted directly from the films.

Little else is yet known about the actual gameplay, however. Presumably the new game will continue with the well-loved series’ focus on large-scale multiplayer battles that combine both on-foot and vehicular combat.

Star Wars Outlaws is a unique departure from some of the more traditional game genres Star Wars has steeped itself in. And while the series’ latest PS5 and Xbox Series X/S entry is well worth the gaming hours, the fact that it’s still a new title means you can expect to pay $70 for quite some time.

That being said, there’s never been a better time to save money on some slightly older Star Wars games. As a matter of fact, while looking through Best Buy deals, we saw that the PS5 and Xbox X/S versions of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have been discounted to $30. There are also plenty of other great Star Wars games on the market, including Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Ubisoft revealed a new short-term road map on Friday for Star Wars Outlaws following a surprise announcement that it would be overhauling its development process because of weak sales.

A Ubisoft spokesperson called the Outlaws launch "softer than expected" in a statement to investors earlier this week, and promised that it would be implementing updates to polish the game and "improve the player experience" in the hopes it'll sell more copies this holiday season.
