Add as a preferred source on Google

Roku is our favorite streaming device platform right now. It lets you watch all of our favorite shows and movies without the constraints of traditional cable or satellite packages. If you’ve been looking to cut the cord on your cable subscription, or if you simply want to add services like Netflix and Hulu to your regular programming, then a Roku can give you instant access to thousands of free and premium channels, movies, apps, and games for a customized and money-saving entertainment experience.

Amazon currently has a number of new and refurbished Roku models available for discounts of up to $20, so now is a great time to jump into the wide world of streaming if you haven’t already. We’ve selected four of the best Roku streamer deals on Amazon right now to save you some time and help you make the right choice.

Roku Streaming Stick

Best for: Regular HDTVs, or if you have a wall-mounted TV

The first Roku streaming device on our list will be a very popular choice for users with wall-mounted televisions, people who travel a lot, or those who want to share one device between multiple TVs. The low-profile Buy Now is barely larger than a typical flash drive, yet its powerful quad-core CPU provides lightning-fast streaming of up to 1080p video. All Roku devices give you access to your subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Vudu, and more, but the Streaming Stick’s biggest selling points are its small size and lack of an AC adapter. This lets you easily swap it between TVs or throw it in your pocket when you’re traveling so you can bring your entertainment with you wherever you go.

The Buy Now goes for $49 new and Amazon now has refurbished models for just $40. All items that are certified refurbished by Amazon, are in like-new condition, and come with all original accessories, such as the Roku remote and earphones, as well as a 90-day warranty.

Best for: TVs that lack an HDMI port (older TVs)

The second device on our Roku streamer roundup is designed for those who have an older TV set without an HDMI port. The Buy Now features a standard A/V connection along with HDMI, and can output video in up to 1080p, allowing you to use your streaming device with both new and old televisions. The versatile Express+ is an ideal solution if you have a traditional TV but would also like the option to use it with an HDTV, and its compact form factor makes it easy to take it with you on the road.

Like all Roku streamers, the Express+ comes with its own compact remote. The free Roku mobile app can turn your iOS or Android device into a remote control as well – a handy feature to have while traveling. The Roku Express+ normally goes for $40 but you can currently enjoy a 15 percent discount on Amazon, bringing the price Buy Now for a brand-new unit.

Best for: Folks who want to also play some games on their regular HDTV

The Buy Now is a more traditional set-top streamer than the Express+ or Streaming Stick, and should look familiar to many. This model gives you the same great access to free and paid movies, shows, apps, and games as any Roku, along with the point-anywhere remote with an earphone jack for private listening. The most notable addition that the Roku 3 brings to the table is its integrated voice command functionality, which lets you perform media searches without even having to use the remote for a truly authentic couch potato experience.

Like the other units, the Buy Now outputs HD video in up to 1080p and works with any HDMI-compatible TV. Normally $76 new, the Certified Refurbished Roku 3 can be had for just Buy Now .

Roku 4

Best for: Those who have a fancy new 4K UHD TV

The final device on our Roku streamer deal list is the only one that is 4K-capable, but it is cheaper than you might think. The Buy Now earned an enthusiastic score of 9.0 in our review and is the model you need if you have a 4K Ultra HD TV and want to get the most out of your entertainment. Even if you don’t yet have a 4K television, the Roku 4 is a good future-proof option if you plan to get an Ultra HD TV eventually – the streaming device works just fine with normal HD displays, as it will simply output video at the highest resolution your television is capable of. Like the Roku 3, the 4 boasts convenient voice command capability as well.

Normally $90, the Buy Now offers the most savings of the items on this list, with a generous $20 discount off of the price of a new unit.

Google shuts down massive botnet running on 1.3 million Android TV boxes
Google says the Chinese manufacturer Videostrong Technology deliberately infected its devices and sold access to cybercriminals.
Videostrong GoogleTV box

Malware infecting Android devices isn't new, but Google's recent report is grim and concerning. The search giant has taken down a massive botnet that turned over 1.3 million Android TV set-top boxes into tools for cybercriminals. Unlike the usual attacks, where users end up downloading some shady apps from the internet, the malware here was planted inside the devices by the manufacturer itself.

According to the Google Threat Intelligence Group, the company behind it is China-based Videostrong Technology. Google has now cut ties with the manufacturer and banned it from building or supplying software for certified Android devices.

Audio-Technica’s new wireless StreamSet headset promises studio sound without the cables
Finally, a wireless headset that takes your voice seriously.
Audio technica new headset.

I've lost count of wireless headsets that sound great until the microphone switches on. That is exactly why a cord-free streaming headset from a studio-audio brand earns my attention (with a pinch of skepticism). Audio-Technica wants to change my mind, and I am all up for it.

The company has announced the "ATH-M50xSTS-WL," its first wireless headset in the StreamSet line. What's unique, however, is how the brand has combined the studio sound of its ATH-M50x monitor headphones with microphone tech from its 20 Series studio mics (via Audio-Technica).

Samsung’s new clip-on earbuds are coming to the US, and they’re not cheap
You can listen to music without blocking out the world around you, but Samsung is charging a premium for the convenience.
Samsung Galaxy Buds On earbuds

Earlier this month, Samsung unveiled its first clip-on earbuds called the Galaxy Buds On. Initially, it announced pricing and availability details only for Korea, but now the brand has revealed them for the US market as well. As per Samsung, the Galaxy Buds On will cost $229 and will be available to buy in early November. Only one color option, Black, will be available initially.

That is quite a steep price, considering the flagship Galaxy Buds 4 Pro go for $250. The Buds On also has no active noise cancellation, weaker bass response, and lower dust and water resistance. All that said, the use case is fundamentally different. While you might choose the Buds 4 Pro as the best daily drivers for your Galaxy smartphone, the Buds On keep your ear canals open, letting you listen to music while staying aware of traffic, conversations, and everything else happening around you. I can see the appeal for people who find traditional earbuds uncomfortable, or those who regularly listen to music while running or commuting.
