Audio road show: Emotiva hits the streets to promote high-end audio to the great unwashed.

XPA-3_FRONT_1024x1024High-end audio is coming to the Windy City, not once but twice in the coming weeks. The 2013 AXPONA (Audio Expo North America) show, which is being held on March 8-10th, will focus on high-end audio and feature more than 400 manufacturers in 100 rooms. This is the first major audio show to be held in Chicago (the former home of CES) for more than 15 years, and if you ask the organizers, the response so far has been tremendous. The first six months of 2013 are absolutely packed with audio shows – AXPONA, Montreal, Munich, New York, and T.H.E. Show in Newport Beach, California – and the rationale is that there is a renewed level of interest among younger listeners in better quality audio thanks to a rash of new, affordable  products. Renewed optimism in the economy and a surge in vinyl sales has some of the bigwigs thinking that a great opportunity exists to expose the MP3/headphone generation to the next level of music playback.

Between affordable USB DACs, portable high-end media players such as the Astell and Kern AK100, and a surge of consumer interest in Neil Young’s PONO player, the barrier to great sound at home is dropping quite rapidly.

One company that has been way ahead of that curve with its affordable high-end audio and home theater products is Emotiva Audio. The boys from Tennessee are taking their show on the road – just not with B.J. and the Bear. Emotiva is packing up a 40-foot trailer with more than 1,000 pounds of amplifiers, headphone amps, home theater processors, loudspeakers, and preamplifiers, destined for a town near you – eventually.

The first free “Emotiva Experience” is being held on Saturday, April 13th at the Chicago Marriott Naperville from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Emotiva will have two-channel and home theater demonstration rooms and are sweetening the deal with refreshments. Who doesn’t love a good refreshment?

“We may live in an MP3 world, but we’re seeing a growing interest in audiophile sound,” explained Dan Laufman, Emotiva’s President and CEO. “That is why we created this customer road show, to help people re-discover the joys of high-end audio and demonstrate how great equipment can transform their listening experience. After all, hearing is believing.”

The second event is being held in Boston on June 21st, 2013. Location is TBD.

Our favorite budget ANC headphones just got even more affordable
Side view of the 1More SonoFlow.

Whether you're wanting to start studying a language, determine if now is the right time to start that business, or just want to finish the chapter in whatever book your eReader is holding, silence is power. ANC, or Active Noise Cancelation, can help you get it. Even without music pumping into your ears the headphones pick up the surrounding sounds in your area and feed you the opposite waves, canceling out the noise.

But the best noise-canceling headphones are typically quite expensive, with premium pairs easily costing $250 or more. If you need some bonus focus but don't have that kind of money lying around for headphones, you'll need to browse through budget headphones instead. Unfortunately, the Venn diagram that cross budget and quality ANC is incredibly narrow, leaving you few choices. One of choices, and our favorite among budget picks, is even more of a clear pick today — it's on sale. Tap the button below to see the 1More SonoFlow at a price of just $60, which is $15 down from their usual $75, or keep reading to see why we think they're the budget ANC headphones for you.

You can save thousands on our favorite 8K TV right now, but there aren’t many left
A closeup view of two ranks of chess pieces on a board shown on a Samsung QN900D.

If you've ever wanted an 8K TV, now is the time. At the very top of our list of the best 8K TVs sits the Samsung QN900D 8K QLED. It's an expensive TV, but right now we're seeing both its 75-inch and 85-inch variations have a huge sale. The 75-inch version is $1,700 off, bringing it to $4,298 from $5,998, and the 85-inch version is $2,200 off, bringing it from $7,498 to $5,298. Unfortunately, the stock is actually dwindling quite quickly, and I'm seeing fewer TVs available now compared to when I first found the deal last night. As I write there are only 7 of the 75-inch and 13 of the 85-inch TVs remaining on sale. So, if you want this TV, you should legitimately hurry up and get it now — this 8K TV deal probably won't last the weekend.
