Pioneer Plans to Launch Blu-ray Recorders

Japanese electronics giant Pioneer has said it plans to work with Sharp to offer Blu-ray recorders on the Japanese market by the end of 2008, hoping to latch onto a growing market as consumers move past the so-called “format war” between HD DVD and Blu-ray. Sharp already offers (pricey) Blu-ray recorders, and is a major investor in Pioneer.

According to estimates from the Fuji Chimera Research Institute, the market for Blu-ray recorders in Japan is expected to explode between now and 2012, growing to some 3.6 million units a year.

Pioneer hasn’t announced any price ranges, feature sets, or target sales figures for its Blu-ray recorders, nor has it made any indication whether it plans to offer the recorders in overseas markets. In North America, Blu-ray has been slow to take hold outside of the PlayStation 3 video game console, as consumers looking for high-definition content seem relatively happy with upscaling standard DVDs and recording other high-definition content sources to hard drive-based DVRs, game consoles, appliances, or computers.

How much does Netflix cost? A breakdown of the streamer’s plans
Netflix Who's watching/manage profiles screen.

Like everything else on the planet, Netflix seems to get more expensive each year. The most premium Netflix plan now costs $23 per month -- though the team has also introduced a relatively new plan that clocks in at just $7 per month (but you'll need to deal with pesky ads to offset the low price). The company has been cracking down on password sharing in recent years, so there's a good chance you'll be kicked off your old roommate's plan and need to get your own soon enough, making it important to understand how much the service costs.

Netflix offers three different plans, and determining how much Netflix costs comes down to figuring out which plan you're interested in. The three plans have big differences, including streaming resolution, number of supported members, and whether you'll be stuck watching ads during your favorite show.

On March 21, Samsung is planning to launch its 2024 range of TVs and audio products. While we can’t say what those will be, given that Samsung is one of the best TV brands around, you’re sure to be onto a good thing by waiting to see what it has to offer. Even better, if you hand over your email address to Samsung today, you can get $100 off your pre-order purchase when the new TVs are announced. There’s nothing to lose here as you’re not committing to making a purchase.

Hit the link below and all you need to do is enter your name, email address, state, and confirm that you’re over 18. If you want to, you can also add your mobile number but there’s no requirement here. By doing so, you agree to Samsung contacting you about what it’s calling a reservation of a TV pre-order.
