Sharp Shows Solar-Powered 26-inch LCTV

At next week’s Hokkaido Toyako Summit, Japanese electronics giant Sharp plans to show off a prototype low-power 26-inch LCD television that consumes about a quarter of the power of a conventional 28-inch LCD panel, along with a new triple-junction thin-film solar module technology that uses no scarce or toxic materials and offers a conversion efficiency of almost 10 percent—among the top rates in the industry. Pair the two together, and you get a solar-powered television.

Sharp says pairing the the low-power LCD television technology with solar cells is a solution that could bring television into off-the-grid areas—and Sharp’s new solar module technology means the necessary solar panel would only have to be roughly the same area as the screen—assuming, of course, adequate direct sunlight. This combination have less environmental impact than traditional television technologies—the TV uses less power, and the solar panel means it doesn’t consume fossil fuels or other electrical resources to operate—but can also be used in areas with no electrical utilities, or when natural disasters have disrupted normal service.

Of course, the products are prototypes and Sharp hasn’t announced any pricing or delivery dates for commercialized versions of the technologies. But the day may come when you can shelve a solar-powered television next to your wind-up radio in your disaster-preparedness stash. (You do have a stash, right?)

Urbanista Los Angeles solar-powered wireless headphones.

Urbanista's $199 Los Angeles wireless headphones are now available for pre-order, marking the first time a company has successfully produced a set of headphones that can be recharged using just light. The Los Angeles' headband uses Exeger's Powerfoyle solar cell material to collect light from the sun or indoor light sources, giving the headphones what Urbanista refers to as "virtually unlimited playtime." Pre-orders are expected to start shipping by the end of July, and Urbanista is offering a free headphone stand to those who get their pre-orders in before that date.

The Los Angeles come in two colors: Midnight Black and Sand Gold. The wireless headphones also feature active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency (ambient sound mode), and on-ear detection for automatically pausing your tunes when you remove them from your ears.

The most anticipated shows coming to Peacock
upcoming anticipated shows on peacock brave new world

Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service, will officially launch in July (it has been available for a limited number of Comcast customers since April) with a strong slate of on-demand TV series and movies as well as live content. But later this year and in 2021, more content is coming.

This includes not only full seasons of some popular series for fans to binge-watch again or for the first time, but also some interesting new originals. What are we most looking forward to, or have high hopes about? Here's a look at some of the most anticipated series coming soon to Peacock.
Battlestar Galactica (reboot)
This won't be the original series but rather a reboot inspired by the story and created by Sam Esmail, known for Mr. Robot and Homecoming. Esmail has said that the new series will address our modern political climate and the "divisiveness of the current era." It will be a new story within the same mythology, which is set hundreds of years in the future where robots have decimated the human race and anyone who managed to survive must fight to find a new home. No word yet on when the series will debut, but it remains one of the most anticipated ones for the streaming service.
Punky Brewster (revival)
