Landlines may be fading in popularity thanks to dropping prices on cell phone lines and the flexibility they offer, but many homes still employ them for their reliability, security and clarity. To help bridge the gap between new tech and old tech in these homes, VTech has introduced a Bluetooth cordless phone that effectively works with both.
Like an ordinary 5.8 GHz cordless phone, the LS5145 allows users to make and receive calls wirelessly around the house on a landline. But its Bluetooth capability also allows it to interface with a cell phone, and make or receive calls from it as well. For instance, users could leave their cell phones charging next to the base station and use the Vtech’s handset instead, knowing that they can make calls without using cell minutes from the landline, but also seamlessly receive calls placed to their mobile numbers. Better still, dead spots for cell reception cease to be a problem.
Bluetooth also allows for connecting wireless headsets easily, and the system can be expanded with up to 12 separate VTech handsets. They feature full-color screens, allowing them to be customized with images and animations for wallpaper, plus ringtones can be recorded directly from any piece of stereo equipment.
VTech’s LS5145 base station and a single handset run for $149.95. Handsets can be added for $79.95 apiece. Both are available immediately direct from VTech or through major retailers.
