Nexus 5: Image of white version appears, November 1 launch likely

nexus 5 image of white version appears november 1 launch likely leak

Check out our review of the Google Nexus 5 smart phone.

If you’re waiting patiently for concrete news about the release of the Nexus 5, you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer. If, however, you’re up for a fresh rumor and fancy a peek at what appears to be a press render of Google’s forthcoming handset, read on.

First up, information on the release date. @evleaks, a source that’s proved reliable in the past, on Sunday tweeted an image of the follow-up to the Nexus 4, showing the device in white, accompanied by the text, “In white. 11/1.” This came a day after @evleaks posted an image of the black version (below).

An announcement this Friday would come almost a year to the day since Google took the wraps off the Nexus 5’s predecessor, though the suggested launch of the white model alongside the black one would see Google doing things a little differently this time around. With the Nexus 4, the white version didn’t hit the market until seven months after the launch of the black model.

@evleaks image shows ‘nexus’ running longways across the back of the device – it ran the opposite way with earlier iterations – precisely as it appeared in a video posted by the Web giant early last month showing the unveiling of its new Android KitKat statue. Google pulled the video as soon as it realized it’d inadvertently included its upcoming phone.

The device also made an unscheduled and brief appearance on the Google Play store earlier this month, apparently revealing a $350 price tag for the 16GB model.

Yet another leak, also in October, appeared to reveal the phone’s full spec list – it seems the Nexus 5 will launch with a 4.95-inch 1080p display, a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, and an 8-megapixel camera. It’ll run Android 4.4 KitKat and come in two storage options, 16GB and 32GB.

With so much known about the phone prior to its launch, perhaps the only way Google’ll be able to surprise us is by simply putting it up online without any announcement whatsoever. Either that or sell it with a free orangutan.

Honor V30 to launch November 26, and it’s going to have 5G
honor 9x hands on news features price specs logo

Honor will launch the V30 smartphone on November 26 and it will come with 5G, making it the brand’s first model to support the technology. First announced on the official Honor Weibo social networking page, the V30 will be shown off in Beijing. It should be considered the sequel to last year’s Honor View 20, and 5G won’t be the only big change compared to it.

Two images shared by Honor in China show the phone with a dual selfie camera hidden inside a double-width cutout in the top left of the screen. The Honor View 20 was the first phone to widely use a cutout in the screen for the camera. Samsung adopted a similar dual-camera screen cutout on the Galaxy S10 Plus.

Google replacing Project Fi Nexus 5X with an Android One Moto X4 for subscribers
Moto X4 tips and tricks

The Google Nexus 5X hasn't exactly proven to be the most reliable phone on the planet. It got good reviews, to be sure, but soon after release components started failing, and users found their phone entering a boot loop, where the device would begin booting, shut down again, then begin booting again -- and so on.

To date, Google has been giving frustrated owners replacements, and then when those ran out it gave out credits instead -- but now it seems the firm is looking to move on from the phone altogether and is instead giving owners a shiny new Lenovo Moto X4, if those customers happen to be Google Project Fi subscribers. Users will still have to pay the $69 fee for device protection.
