NVIDIA To Power New Palm Graphics

As a member of the Palm OS Ready Program, PalmSource will provide NVIDIA with Palm OS Garnet and Cobalt tools and components designed to enable the creation of software drivers for the NVIDIA GoForceâ„¢ family of media processors and make them available to Palm OS licensees. The NVIDIA GoForce media processors offers advanced features for smart mobile devices, including support for multi-megapixel image capture, accelerated graphics for gaming, and video capture and playback. Using dedicated hardware accelerator engines, the GoForce processors deliver high performance for multimedia applications and drive high-resolution displays, while minimizing battery life consumption on the device.

“Partnering with one of the leading mobile platform providers, PalmSource, supports our business strategy of extending our graphics solutions to deepen our penetration in the market for smart mobile devices,” said Phil Carmack, general manager and vice president of handheld group at NVIDIA.  “We believe Palm OS licensees will benefit from NVIDIA’s cutting-edge technology, manufacturing leadership and global support infrastructure to create successful mobile solutions tailored to the multimedia and entertainment markets.”

Apple is about to do the unthinkable to its iPads

Earlier today, Apple announced that new iPads are coming this May. In my eyes, this seems to be “The Chosen One” generation. We’re likely getting an OLED display, a better keyboard (hopefully), and a chip ready to chomp the AI dinner. This gadget shall finally fill the techno-digital void in my life. At last.

The first HMD Android phones are here, and they’re super cheap

Finnish company Human Mobile Devices is renewing its journey under the HMD branding, shedding aside the Nokia naming it used to use for all of its smartphones. The first handsets to bear the HMD branding are the HMD Pulse, HMD Pulse+, HMD Pulse Pro, and the HMD Vibe. All phones share similar aesthetics, with a few splashy colors thrown in for certain trims, and target the budget segment.

The HMD Vibe, for example, serves a 6.56-inch display with an HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 silicon runs the show, alongside 4GB of RAM and 128GB storage. Notably, there’s a microSD card slot that supports storage expansion up to 512GB.
