High-fashion electronics manufacturer V-Moda announced the introduction of a new earbud-style headset on Tuesday, made especially for iPhone users. The Vibe Duo resembles a pair of traditional earbuds, but with a discrete built-in microphone, plus controls for playback and picking up calls.

V-Moda borrowed the iPhone’s signature piano-black-and-chrome color scheme for the Vibe Duo, and sheathed its cables in black fabric. Despite an all-metal design, the headset weighs just 13 grams.

Swappable small, medium and large silicon fittings ensure that the device stays firmly planted in the wearer’s ear, and seal out outside noise. V-Moda claims that the tight seal also provides better bass response in the 12HZ to 22Hz range.

The Vibe Duo headset is available immediately for $99.99 through Apple.com, V-Moda’s online store, and other retailers. Since the headset uses a standard 1/8” mini plug, it will also work with non-iPhone handsets, including Blackberry’s Curve and the upcoming Sidekick 4.

There's no shortage of messaging apps out there. The past decade has given us more options than we know what to do with, largely because smartphones demanded something better than plain old SMS.
