Like a 30-year-old man announcing that he can finally do his own laundry, Virgin Mobile announced on Friday that it has finally picked up its first Bluetooth-enabled cell phone – eliciting few congratulations and mostly prompting the rest of the world to ask what the hell took so long.
Fortunately, the phone to pop Virgin Mobile’s blueberry makes up for the lackluster announcement in some regards. UTStarcom has followed up last year’s Slice handset by providing Virgin with its new Super Slice, which adds news features but retains the same slim measurements: 0.4 inches thick, 4.4 inches tall and 1.9 inches wide. It weighs in at 2.5 ounces.
Although its dimensions are similar to its predecessor, the Super Slice will add a camera with VGA camera with 3x zoom, plus extended battery life and the all-important Bluetooth functionality.
“Super Slice is not only practical and affordable, but also offers popular extras and a stylish look,” said Philip Christopher, president of UTStarcom, in a statement. “We believe this Virgin Mobile handset has ideal features for Virgin Mobile’s more than 4.8 million customers. We are proud of this new update to the already popular Slice.”
Virgin Mobile will offer the Super Slice for $59.99 with service.
