Check out pictures of new 2011 Ford Explorer, which is expected to be the greenest SUV in its class.

If you’re looking to go green, but don’t want to lose the convenience a larger car offers, you may want to keep an eye out for Ford’s new Explorer. The 2011 Explorer will be at the top of its class for fuel economy thanks to its new EcoBoost engine. The 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine will improve fuel efficiency by more than 30 percent and still pump out an impressive 237 horsepower. The standard 3.5L TiVCT V6 will deliver a best-in-class 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft of torque while offering 25 percent better highway mpg than the previous Explorer. Ford has also made strides in using up to 85 percent recyclable material to manufacture the new Explorer, including using left over steel from the F-150, which has cut down on the use of virgin steel by up to 119 tons annually. The new Explorer will be available this winter and base models will start around $28,000.

  2. johnnydare at 11:29am 23rd December 2010 Is it just me or does the black around the bottom of the sides and rear bumper make it look cheap? I think it would look better painted the same color as the rest of the body.

  5. Rob B at 5:40pm 18th August 2010 The 2011 Explorer looks like a redone Freestyle oops I mean a Taurus with a face lift with a bunch of new toys added. I hope the interior carpet is better and the sheet metal is thick enough to with stand someone leaning against it when compared to the Taurus.

  7. Aaron at 8:26pm 9th August 2010 You have a mistake in your article. The V6 is not an EcoBoost engine. It is a normal V6. The 4-cylinder optional engine is EcoBoost.
    1. Greg Mombert at 8:38am 10th August 2010 Thanks for the correction Aaron, the Explorer will come with either the 2.0L EcoBoost or a standard 3.5L V6.
