With each iPhone release comes a bevy of accessories to complement Apple’s latest gear, and this year, Grovemade is back to accompany the iPhone 7 with its wooden and leather designed cases and wallets.

The Portland, Oregon-based company specializes in designing and handcrafting wooden and leather accessories and introduced a new collection to pair with Apple’s newest releases last week.

Grovemade’s newest products include a folio wallet case, a leather and wood case, a wood case, wood iPhone bumpers, and a wood iPhone dock. Ken Tomita, one of the company’s co-founders, said in a release that the company has refocused its direction to iPhone cases with the latest release.

“We’ve spent the last year creating pocket knives and speaker systems and with the launch of the iPhone 7, the team has returned to its roots by setting out to make the best wooden iPhone accessories on the market,” Tomita said. “Not only have we redesigned our current styles, but we now offer our customers a hybrid wallet case that minimizes everyday carry.”

Quality craftsmanship is at the core of the company’s values, according to the release, as “each case and dock is milled, hand sanded and minimally treated to retain the inherent beauty of the wood.” Each product was conceptualized, fabricated and manufactured in Grovemade’s woodshop in Portland.

The lineup includes variants to fit both the iPhone 7 and the 7 Plus and focuses on minimalist design. The folio wallet case, for example, features a “frame of solid domestically sourced wood with a premium vegetable-tanned leather cover that develops a patina over time.” An interior flat will hold two cards vertically and a few folded bills.

While the wallet isn’t meant to be a rugged, all-purpose wallet to stash the contents of your bank account, it’ll serve as a solid, fashionable accessory item to pair with your new iPhone. The iPhone 7 folio wallet case retails for $129, and an extra $10 for the 7 Plus. Grovemade has made the latest wallet design available for all iPhone 6 variants as well.

Here’s how Apple could change your iPhone forever

Over the past few months, Apple has released a steady stream of research papers detailing its work with generative AI. So far, Apple has been tight-lipped about what exactly is cooking in its research labs, while rumors circulate that Apple is in talks with Google to license its Gemini AI for iPhones.

But there have been a couple of teasers of what we can expect. In February, an Apple research paper detailed an open-source model called MLLM-Guided Image Editing (MGIE) that is capable of media editing using natural language instructions from users. Now, another research paper on Ferret UI has sent the AI community into a frenzy.

There’s a big problem with the iPhone’s Photos app
The Apple iPhone 15 Plus's gallery app.

While my primary device these days continues to be my iPhone 15 Pro, I’ve dabbled with plenty of Android phones since I’ve been here at Digital Trends. One of my favorite brands of phone has been the Google Pixel because of its strong suite of photo-editing tools and good camera hardware.

Google first added the Magic Eraser capability with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, which is a tool I love using. Then, with the Pixel 8 series, Google added the Magic Editor, which uses generative AI to make edits that wouldn’t be possible otherwise. There are also tools like Photo Unblur, which is great for old photographs and enhancing images that were captured with low-quality sensors.

Why you should buy the iPhone 15 Pro Max instead of the iPhone 15 Pro

If you want the best iPhone money can buy in 2024, you have two options: the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. They have the same chipset, similar display technology, nearly identical cameras, etc. It's a really close battle, save for the fact that the iPhone 15 Pro is $200 cheaper.

It might be tempting to save some cash and choose the iPhone 15 Pro, but I recommend you splurge for the larger (and more expensive) iPhone 15 Pro Max. Why? Let me explain.
It's a big iPhone you won't hate using
