Although still rather a niche market, Apple and a number of other companies have shown that some people really do like covering their electronics in precious metals. Dell has seen success with a limited run of gold laptops as well, and is looking to continue that trend with the new-generation XPS13, by adding the rose gold version.
The color tone is a sort-of metallic pink, though hardly a strong coloring. It has a distinctly female connotation though, so perhaps Dell is looking to make inroads in the typically less-explored female electronics market.

Admittedly it does stand out, especially among a sea of typical laptop greys and blacks, but considering the rose gold version starts at $1,500, $700 more than the stock model, it might be hard to justify.
What won’t be hard to justify is the internal hardware, which is typically strong. There will be new options for Kaby Lake processors from the Core i3, i5 and i7 ranges, offering varied performance at different price points. The new generation will have much better support for 4K video though, which will be a nice touch for those who splash out more for the near-4K 3,200 x 1,800 touchscreen (thanks Engadget).
You can also have up to 16GB of RAM and a terabyte of SSD storage, though all XPS 13s will come fitted with Killer Wireless-AC Wi-Fi and up to 22 hours of use thanks to the large internal battery. Physically the XPS 13 is very slim at just 15mm at its thickest and weighs in at just 2.7 pounds.
The new Dell XPS 13 range will be released on October 4.
