For an increase of that scale, there has to be some tech changes too, right? Wrong. The Carrera Connected in rose gold is exactly the same watch as the one that costs $1,500, and arguably, the same as the Motorola Moto 360, the Huawei Watch, and all the other Android Wear watches. Smartwatches that cost about $300, remember.
That means the screen measures 1.5-inches, an Intel processor and 1GB of RAM provide the power, and a 410mAh battery should return around 25 hours use before needing a recharge. The big difference between buying the Carrera Connected and any other Android Wear smartwatch is that when the technology is considered obsolete, the watch can be converted over to a mechanical version by TAG Heuer, so it doesn’t just sit in a drawer somewhere because it’s out of date.
The more expensive rose gold edition’s announcement isn’t a surprise. Going back to mid-2015, when the watch had proved to be an early success for TAG Heuer, CEO Jean-Claude Biver said it was the first in a collection of models made from different materials, and releases would come at the end of 2016 onwards. The rose gold version joins several other strap and body variations, including one with a metal link band.
Depending on where you live, the Carerra Connected must be purchased at a TAG Heuer dealer or boutique store, rather than online. At the time of writing, it’s not available through the company’s web store.
