The speakers were unveiled at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver, CO. The Verus Grand family is a high-end complement to the company’s Aperion Intimus line of home theater speakers.

“The goal for the Aperion Verus Grand line was to create an accurate, uncolored, lifelike experience,” says Ken Humphreys, Aperion’s lead speaker engineer and a 25-year veteran of speaker system and component design for the audio industry’s most respected brands. “To do that, our team built the entire speaker system from the bottom up, engineering each component for maximum sonic impact while keeping the cost in reach of most home theater audio buffs.”

“A key part of the solution is our new Axially Stabilized Radiator tweeter, which takes the burden of reproducing upper-mid frequencies off the mid-range driver,” Humphreys adds. “That allows each driver to do the job it does best. The result is wider dispersion for an expanded soundstage and lower distortion to boost clarity.”

Pricing for the new Aperion Verus Grand line of home theater speakers is $1,798 per pair for the Verus Grand Tower; $699 for the Verus Grand Center; and $598 per pair for the Verus Grand Bookshelf. Pre-orders are now being accepted, and the system will ship on October 30, 2010. A 10-year limited warranty covers all defects in material and workmanship. The product also comes with free shipping, free lifetime support and a 30-day in-home trial.

Dolby Atmos FlexConnect could eliminate home theater soundbars and HDMI cables

Dolby Labs has a new home theater technology called Dolby Atmos FlexConnect. The company says it will let people with a compatible TV place wireless speakers anywhere that's convenient, and the TV's built-in microphones will automatically calibrate them to work with the TV's speakers while ensuring the whole setup produces optimal sound. The technology will make its debut in the 2024 TCL X955 QD mini-LED 4K TV, but Dolby anticipates that other companies will also announce support for Dolby Atmos FlexConnect.

Because Dolby Atmos FlexConnect works wirelessly and uses a compatible TV's built-in hardware and software, you'll be able to set up a Dolby Atmos audio system that doesn't require a soundbar or AV receiver as its central unit and doesn't need an HDMI cable to send an audio signal to an external device.

Sonos’ new Era 100 and Era 300 wireless speakers go all-in on spatial audio and Bluetooth

Sonos has officially unveiled two new wireless smart speakers -- the $249 Sonos Era 100, and the $449 Sonos Era 300. While the Era 100 is effectively a new version of the aging Sonos One, which it replaces, the Era 300 is an entirely new type of speaker for the company, with six drivers (including an up-firing tweeter) and compatibility with spatial audio formats like Dolby Atmos.

The leaks pretty much nailed it. Both speakers will be available on March 28 in 26 countries including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Ireland, Germany, and Australia, with preorders beginning March 7.
