As you might recall, Acura unveiled the 2014 MDX Prototype in Detroit.
Typically, the Japanese automaker runs its vehicles from Prototype to Concept to Production. Acura will be skipping a step, however, and sending the Production version of the 2014 MDX to the New York Auto Show next week.
With an all-new platform, the 2014 MDX will mark the third generation of Acura’s best-selling model. Under the hood, Acura has placed a 3.5-liter, direct-injected V6 under the hood featuring Variable Cylinder Management (VCM).
For the first time in the MDX’s history, the 2014 will be offered in Super Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) or front wheel drive only. This change was aimed at buyers who living in parts of the country that don’t necessarily experience inclement weather and therefore don’t need a heavy-duty all-wheel drive system.
In the way of tech, the MDX is virtually loaded both inside and out. On the interior, customers will enjoy Acura’s next-generation AcuraLink infotainment system. On the outside, Acura has added Jewel Eye LED headlights.
Safety tech abounds in the 2014 MDX. The MDX will help keep drivers in the appropriate lane with Lane Keeping Assist System and alert them if another driver is in their blind spot with Blind Spot Information. On the highway, the MDX will adjust its speed automatically when Adaptive Cruise Control is set, which includes Low-Speed Follow.
We’re excited to see what else Acura has planned under the skin of the new MDX. Though it flies under the radar, the seven-passenger 300+ horsepower mid-size SUV has always been one of our favorites.
