Soundfreaq reaches back to the 80’s with new retro-styled Boom Freaq speaker dock

Soundfreaq Novogratz Boom Freaq TopSoundfreaq has announced that it is teaming up with HGTV’s The Novogratz to launch a new limited-edition speaker called the Boom Freaq as part of a Father’s Day promotion.

The new speaker is a redesigned take on the Sound Stack model Soundfreaq released in February,  and is said to be inspired by “old school boomboxes”. The differences between the original and the new Boom Freaq are largely cosmetic, as there has been no major change or alteration in features or performance, with the notable exception that an Apple Lightning connector is being added to accommodate the latest iOS devices sporting the new port.

Like the Sound Stack, the Boom Freaq is a Bluetooth-enabled speaker that allows users to stream audio wirelessly from a compatible smartphone, tablet or MP3 player. In the event that Bluetooth isn’t an option, users couldSoundfreaq Novogratz Boom Freaq plug in an audio device directly using a 3.5mm auxiliary cable.

The DubSub feature seen in the Sound Stack is also retained in the Boom Freaq, meaning that its 2.2 speaker configuration pairs two full-range drivers with two active subwoofers. Soundfreaq says the technology and its proprietary sound enhancement gives the speaker an acoustic level unlike others in the category.

The Boom Freaq is currently available for pre-order at Soundfreaq.com for $350. Availability appears to be limited and shipping is said to be four-to-five weeks from now.

Beats Solo 4: the latest on-ear headphones get spatial and lossless audio
Beats Solo 4 in Cloud Pink.

After a nearly eight-year gap, Beats finally has an updated version of its Solo wireless on-ear headphones: the Beats Solo 4. The fourth-gen cans look nearly identical to their predecessors and they sport the same $200 price tag. Under that familiar exterior, however, lies a series of upgrades, including support for spatial and lossless audio, that Beats hopes will keep the Solo 4 as its most popular product. The Solo 4 can be ordered starting April 30 in Matte Black, Slate Blue, and Cloud Pink, with shipping beginning May 2. Beats also debuted its latest wireless earbuds, the Solo Buds.

Physically, very little has changed since the Solo3 Wireless debuted in 2016. The Solo 4 preserves the now-classic Beats lines, with the same folding hinges and a low-profile headband that transitions seamlessly into the earcups. Some of the chrome-finish accents have been retired, but the distinctive lowercase "b" Beats logo is still front and center.
