Audi’s 2014 Q line-up shows some teeth with announcement of first-ever “S” model version

Audi SQ5Building on one of the best selling models in its line-up, Audi has announced pricing for the all-new 2014 SQ5, the first-ever S variant of an Audi Q model ever built.

The base price for the high-performance luxury crossover will start at $51,900, compared to $43,900 for the standard 3.0-liter V6 model.

Powered by a supercharged 3.0-liter direct injection V6 engine, the Audi SQ5 generates 354 hp and 347 lb-ft. of torque, a power boost of more than 82 horses over the standard 3.0-liter V6 model, according to Audi’s official press release.

Audi says the luxury crossover, which is expected to arrive to U.S. dealerships later this summer, will hit 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds and has a top track speed of 155 mph.

Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, the SQ5 also features Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.

The SQ5 also features Audi’s high-tech roof rack detection system (available on all Q5’s) that is directly linked to the crossover’s electronic stability control (ESC) control unit.

Exterior features include aluminum roof rails, standard 20-inch wheels and quad exhaust tips. Inside, the SQ5 features contrast stitching, gray instrument face with white needles, pedals with aluminum inserts and standard leather/Alcantara sport seats.

When the crossbars are installed, a signal is sent that adjusts driving dynamic relevant parameters according to the center of gravity. When the crossbars are not installed, the ESC program adjusts dynamics to allow for more enthusiastic driving.

In addition to the high-performance SQ5, the Q5 model line is also enhanced for the 2014 model year with the addition of the all-new fuel-efficient Q5 TDI clean diesel model, which joins the current lineup of 2.0T, 3.0T and hybrid variants.
