The tablet experience on Android is improving with each new release of the platform and Google’s showcase Nexus range is leading the way. There’s no other large Android tablet quite so impressive as the Nexus 10 right now, but that slim body and stunning 2560 x 1600 pixel LCD need looking after. You need to invest in one of the best Nexus 10 cases and covers. Here’s our list of contenders.
Gumdrop Drop Tech Series Case ($50)
If you’re after real rugged protection, you could do worse than this. Silicone is ideal for absorbing shock and this case has seriously reinforced corners so your Nexus 10 will survive a drop as long as it’s wearing this case. There’s a built-in screen protector as well. The tire tread effect provides grip, and you can get it in plain black or green, if you don’t like this red and black combo. It’s pretty bulky, but it can definitely take some punishment.
Portenzo Boomerang BookCase ($80)
For something really unique you might consider one of these 50’s notebook-style cases from Portenzo. They are not cheap, but they are hand-crafted in the U.S. using book-binding techniques and American maple wood. The standard case has the sleep/wake function and you can customize if you want. There’s an elastic strap enclosure, or you can pay $10 extra and opt for a magnetic closure. You can also opt for stand functions, a camera cut-out, or even personalize it with an embossed spine or cover.
MoKo Folio Cover Case ($21)
This genuine leather, folio style case has a raft of intriguing features. It automatically wakes your Nexus 10 when you open it and puts it to sleep when you close it. There’s an elastic closure to keep it shut, or fold it open, and a loop to store a stylus. On the soft micro-fiber interior you’ll find a hand strap for securely holding the Nexus 10 one-handed. It can also be folded to support various landscape viewing angles. It comes with a lifetime warranty.
Poetic HardBack Case ($15)
You can get this case in a range of colors and it comes in a plain leather effect finish, as well as the carbon fiber finish that’s pictured. It’s another folio style case with a magnetic sleep/wake function, an elastic closure, and support for various viewing angles in landscape. There’s a hand strap inside this one too, the interior is micro-fiber, and the cutouts allow you to access everything without having to remove the tablet from the case.
Noreve Leather Case ($85)
While the price might give some pause, you certainly can’t argue with the quality of these Noreve cases. They are hand-crafted using beautiful, premium leather and you can choose from a wide variety of different colors and finishes to get the exact look you want. You’ll have full access to the Nexus 10’s ports and buttons, and although the cover has a snap closure, there are magnets for the automatic sleep/wake function.
Official Book Cover ($30)
The official cover from Google attaches via the removable back panel, so it is literally is just a cover for the screen. That’s ideal if you want to safeguard against scratches and keep a slim profile. The inside is lined with soft felt, while the outside is a matte finish textured vinyl. Dark grey or scarlet (which looks orange) are your two color choices. There’s a cut-out for the front-facing camera, and that also means you can open it for use, fold it back and the rear-facing camera is clear.
Waterfield: The Indy ($180)
We understand spending this amount of money on a bag for your Nexus 10 is going to be hard to justify, but it will make you look like Indiana Jones. It’s obviously designed to hold Sankara stones, but the ultrasuede lining makes it ideal for your tablet as well. There’s a concealed zip, an outer pocket for accessories, and a long strap. If you don’t like the distressed grizzly brown, you can opt for black, and you can choose whatever highlight color you want as well.
Fintie Leather Folio Case ($7)
Dropping to the opposite end of the budget scale we find this synthetic leather folio case from Fintie. It comes in eight different colors and features cut-outs for uninterrupted operation. There’s support for the automatic sleep/wake function. You’ll also find a stylus holder, and it can be folded to act as a stand for landscape view. Don’t expect it to last forever, but at this price you can always buy another one.
Khomo Bluetooth Keyboard Case ($35)
Would you prefer a physical keyboard to go with your Nexus 10? This offering from Khomo has a built-in Bluetooth keyboard and a magnetic closure. It’s obviously a bit bulky, but it is fairly lightweight. It supports automatic sleep/wake, and the 360 degree rotation feature allows you to set the Nexus 10 up in landscape or portrait view. It’s made of polyurethane, rather than leather, and it has a microfiber lining. It’s not the best quality, but the price reflects that.
Amzer Jelly Case ($20)
Here’s a molded silicone case that will protect your Nexus 10 from damage if it falls. Shock absorption and added grip are the real selling points. It’s not particularly tight, and it’s certainly not very pretty, although it does come in a choice of 10 colors, but if protection is your main objective, this case will do the job. Heat can be an issue if you use the Nexus 10 for long periods in this case.
