Up until now, if you wanted to customize your own Motorola Moto X smartphone, then you had to subscribe with AT&T to do so, as the Moto Maker service was an exclusive to the network. Now, just in time for some Christmas shopping, Motorola has opened Moto Maker’s doors to anyone signing up with T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon too.
There’s some more good news on the wallet front, as Motorola has dropped the price of the Moto X to $100 with a two-year contract through AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. As for T-Mobile, purchasing the Moto X on Moto Maker only provides an off-contract option, which means the phone will cost you $500.
So what can you do in Moto Maker? It provides the chance to customize the look of your Moto X, from the color of the body shell to an engraving on the rear panel, right down to the greeting displayed on the screen at startup. There are more than 2,000 possible configurations, and while it doesn’t quite extend to specifying which battery or processor you’d like, you can choose between 16GB or 32GB of memory, and even the color of the included headphones.
All this lovely choice can be baffling though, and as our Mobile Editor found out, it’s easy to while away hours deciding what you want, only to reach a compromise because you can’t get it exactly right. Still, it has got to be better than only being able to choose between grey, white or worse, gold, right?
The $100 promo price is only for a limited time, so if you want to make your own Moto X and get a great deal, then it’s best to do it soon. Make sure you check out our review of the phone first, though.
