As mirrorless cameras continue to expand and evolve, so are the lenses. A German-Chinese partnership has developed what’s being claimed as the “fastest lens in the world for mirrorless systems,” the Ibelux 40mm f/0.85. The lens, part of a brand called Handevision, had been known about since this past February, but was just made official by its creations, German IB/E Optics and Shanghai Transvision. What do you do with that fast aperture? It’s all about the bokeh.
“While risky to start our launch with this groundbreaking high-speed lens, we hope to gain the attention and confidence of photographers around the world with our expanding new lenses,” the companies wrote. “Our mission is to manufacture high-grade lenses of metallic construction with a clean, aesthetic finish.”

This lens is just the beginning. A wide-angle glass will follow, called the IBEGON, and a high-speed telephoto called IBECAT is being developed for full-frame cameras like the new Sony Alpha A7 and A7R. Future lenses will include tilt-shift and fixed focal lengths as well. The company says the lenses feature German engineering with cost-effective Chinese manufacturing – like many products today.
The Ibelux will come in various versions for Sony NEX, Canon EOS M, Fuji X, and Micro Four Thirds mounts. Despite perceptions of cheap Chinese manufacturing, this lens is anything but, costing $2,080.
