Find Cheap Gas On Your Cell Phone

Find Cheap Gas On Your Cell Phone

With gas prices hitting new records across the country, finding the cheapest place to fill-up has become more important to price-savvy consumers who want to save a few bucks. Unfortunately, driving around town to find the best price on gas quickly negates the savings. While a bevy of Web sites have already sprung up to help consumers navigate prices from home, up until now you’ve been out of luck when the gas gauge hits E on a trip – no computer, no prices.

That’s where Mobio has stepped in with the free Cheap Gas widget for cell phones, which it launched Tuesday. After downloading Mobio’s software, users can plug in a location and search radius, then see prices at all the gas stations around them on a map. There is even an option to filter stations by brand, for people who are picky about their petroleum. And so you don’t have to keep reentering addresses, you can save frequent locations like your home and place of work to save a little effort on the next price check.

All of the widget’s price data is culled from GasPriceWatch.com, which uses volunteer spotters to keep prices up to date. The site covers 130,000 stations, with 400,000 updates pouring in every week.

The Cheap Gas widget is part of the GetMobio lifestyle portal, a service that offers 50 applications, widgets and RSS feeds for free. Of course, the software does transfer data over your cell phone network, so you’ll need a capable phone and a plan to use it.
