What’s happened? Avid Apple fans knows inventory shifts and extended delivery times for online stock is an indication that new models could be coming soon… and it is happening now.

  • Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman pointed out inventory realignments for key Apple products in a post on X, citing limited availability for certain models.
  • Some M4 iPad Pro configurations currently reflect delivery times of up to three weeks, and some standard M4 MacBook Pro customer builds are back-ordered to late October.
  • With every manufacturer, not just Apple, an inventory shift and complex delivery schedules serve as a transition from manufacturing and stocking the older models to producing and distributing newer ones.

The iPad Pro M4 is fairly constrained at Apple retail stores and online shipments are now delayed till between Oct. 21-28 for online orders of some configurations. A good as any sign for an imminent iPad Pro M5 debut. Entry (non Pro/Max chip) 14-inch MacBook Pros as well.

Why is it important?

  • Apple store inventory shortages often anticipate product announcements because Apple and retailers clear or restrict stock prior to shipping new units.
  • Apple preparing to produce M5 chips could be a potential milestone for the tech industry with the new updates and capabilities it could bring.

Why should I care?

  • If you do plan to purchase a new iPad Pro or MacBook Pro, current inventory shifts may put you in the position of having to wait longer for your new toy to arrive.
  • On the other hand, holding out for a couple weeks might result in the newer M5-driven models offering significant performance improvements if Apple continues its historical refresh cycles – while remaining stock of older devices might see price reductions.

What’s next?

  • We’re anticipating a mid–late October Apple launch, either through a livestreamed event or, or via the more subtle press release announcement on its Newsroom

Shopping for back-to-school? These are the webcam lights I’d actually turn on before a Zoom call
From a budget clip light to a proper desk setup, there's a webcam light here for every price.
Head, Person, Face

Between online classes, group project calls, and the occasional job interview over Zoom, your webcam will be doing a lot more heavy lifting in school than it ever did at home. The problem is that most laptop cameras are bad in low light, and a single overhead bulb or a window behind you turns every call into a game of "wait, can you see me okay?"

A good webcam light fixes that faster than moving your whole desk around. I picked five, starting with the most affordable and working up to the one that's genuinely overkill for a Zoom call but still worth knowing about.

Google Chrome could soon let you translate pages right inside Reading Mode
However, not everyone's seeing it yet, even on Canary.
Google Chrome

Chrome's Reading Mode just got a new button tucked inside its settings menu. Google is quietly testing a translate option for the feature on Chrome Canary, the browser's experimental testing channel where new ideas show up long before they're ready for everyday use.

What does this new translate button actually do?

AI dramas need actors, so Chinese platforms are turning human faces into stock assets
People can now earn money by licensing their likenesses to AI creators, although keeping track of where those digital faces end up may prove considerably harder
Adult, Female, Person

People in China can now license their face to AI much like a photographer licenses a stock image. AI creators can then make that likeness speak, move, and appear as different characters in short dramas or ads.

Contributors have earned between $15 and $700 through platforms such as ActID and New Claw, according to Rest of World.
