If you’re in the market for a new PC but have shied away from snagging one because of the relative bulk associated with even standard PC cases, get a load of the SmallBlock from system builder Velocity Micro, a configurable system that can pack a punch while maintaining a pretty slim profile.

Measuring in at just 13×8 inches, the Velocity Micro SmallBlock will fit into any snug confines, whether you’re packed into a dorm, a studio, or you just happen to have a media room that doesn’t have much space to begin with. Starting at $749, the base configuration Velocity Micro SmallBlock includes an Intel Pentium G3320 dual-core CPU, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive, Intel HD4600 graphics, an ASUS DVD burner, and Windows 7 Home Premium.

While that’s not exactly a powerhouse, you can soup up your Velocity Micro SmallBlock with a range of processors and graphics cards, topping out with a config that includes an Intel Core i7-4771 quad-core CPU, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti graphics card with 1GB of GDDR5 RAM, a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD, 16GB of RAM, and a 550-watt power supply. Stuffing it with those components brings the price of the system to $1,904.

While it won’t come close to generating benchmark scores and frame-rates produced by top of the line rigs from Origin PC, Alienware, and Falcon Northwest, this setup offers plenty of punch that’ll allow you to run almost anything under the sun with most of the graphical eye candy tuned to or near the max, while falling short of the $2,000 mark.
