Waiting for prices to fall before getting in on tech that you’ve been eyeing is a smart, prudent strategy that proves successful sooner or later. If’ you’ve been tracking the original Microsoft Surface Pro’s price tag in recent months, then you know that its fallen considerably. Well, it just sank again.

The Surface Pro can now be had for $599. While that’s far from a bargain, compared to its original $900 price, its not a terrible deal. Back in October, the Surface Pro’s price was cut by $100 to $800 from $900. Then in early December, well into the holiday shopping frenzy, the Surface Pro’s price tag was cut again from $800 to $680, a $120 decrease in the asking price. Now at $600, the Surface Pro enjoys yet another slash to the tune of $80.

Running Windows 8 Pro, the Surface Pro sports an Intel Core i5 CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 10.6-inch 1080p 10-point multi-touch display, Intel HD Graphics 4000, front and rear facing cameras, 802.11a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and more. While the first-gen Surface Pro was initially offered with 64 GB and 128 GB storage variants, only the 128 GB model is made available for $600.

This comes after Microsoft tablets enjoyed a relatively significant surge in sales during the holiday season, increasing Microsoft’s share of the tablet market to 2.3 percent, a spike of 0.5 percent, according to data compiled by Chitika Insights.

It’ll be interesting to see whether this price cut will also result in an increase in Surface Pro sales and whether it gets another price cut anytime soon. You can grab a $600 128 GB Surface Pro slate from Best Buy or Microsoft.

The Surface Pro 10 sounds amazing, and it may be coming soon
The back of the Surface Pro 9, with the kickstand pulled out.

Microsoft could be getting ready to reveal the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6 sooner than expected. Reporting from Windows Central's Zac Bowden indicates the devices might be announced on March 21, and could feature both Intel Core Ultra and Snapdragon X Elite chips under the hood, along with some design tweaks.

These new Surface devices are expected to go all-in on AI features in Windows 11. More important is that we could see the next Surface Laptop in a new ARM-based variant in addition to one with a traditional Intel Core Ultra CPU. This change in chips should not only bring more choice like the Surface Pro 9 did, but also performance gains that can help the devices rival what Apple has accomplished with the iPad Pro, as well as the new MacBook Pro with the M3 chip.
