Acer America Corporation has announced that two new notebook computers are available in the U.S., each based on the company’s Gemstone design, developed in conjunction with BMW Group DesignworksUSA. The Acer Aspire 4710 aims to be a sleek, budget-friendly notebook while the Aspire 5920 targets multimedia fans with home theater features and an HD DVD drive.
The Acer Aspire 5920 offers a 15.4-inch, 1,280 by 800 CrystalBrite LCD display, an HD DVD drive, and Dolby Home Theather support, so users can connect up to six speakers to enjoy movies or games. Under the hood, the 5920 packs a 2 GHz Core 2 Duo processor with 4 MB of L2 cache, 2 GB of RAM, a 200 GB hard drive, a 5-in-1 media card reader, and an Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT graphics controller. Also on board: gigabit Ethernet, 802.11a/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless networking, an integrated Webcam, and either Vista Home Premium or Ultimate. Acer’s pricing on the 5920 starts at $1,999.
Acer also claims the Aspire 4710 is an entertainment notebook, with Core 2 Duo processors, strong graphics capabilities, and Dolby surround sound with S/PDIF audio output and an Acer CrystalEye Webcam for video conferencing and chat. Acer hasn’t revealed full specs for the 4710, but they have set the starting price at $599, which may be enough to garner some attention.
Both notebooks are available now through Acer authorized distributors and resellers.
