Sony has unveiled its latest living room PC in the form of the Vaio LT PC/TV, designed as a both a computer and entertainment center for folks who might be cramped for space, but still want a high-end video experience.
The Vaio LT HD PC/TV features a “floating glass” design with a 22-inch WSXGA+ widescreen LCD display. The system will be available in multiple configurations, sporting Intel Core 2 Duo processors, a minimum of 2 G of RAM, 802.11n Wi-Fi, an unspecified “discrete” graphics controller, a “roomy” hard drive, and Windows Vista Ultimate. The unit also sports an integrated 1.3 megapixel Webcam and echo-canceling microphone for video messaging, and a wireless keyboard and mouse designed to be used from across the room with no annoying cables. A high-definition version will offer a Blu-ray disc drive, enabling users to both play back Blu-ray content and store personal content to Blu-ray media. The Vaio LT HD PC/TV also features a VESA-compatible mount so users can hang it directly on a wall.
“The LT model has everything you need—it’s a PC and HDTV set in one breathtaking device,” said Sony Vaio senior VP Mike Abary, in a release. “It’s the ultimate showstopper for media lovers who appreciate high-def performance and cutting-edge technology in a saving space design.”
The Vaio LT HD PC/TV also operates as a television with an HD-capable television tuner; users can use an A/V power button to shut down television functions without shutting down computing (and video recording) functions. Sony also plans to offer a separate, external, CableCard-ready tuner.
The Vaio LT HD PC/TV should hit retailers in October, with prices starting around $1,900; the high-definition version with a Blu-ray recorder will start at around $2,900.
