The latest installment in everyone’s favorite purple dragon franchise has just reached U.S. retailers. Sierra Entertainment has announced The Legend of Spyro: Eternal Night is now available for the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo Wii game consoles, as well as the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance handhelds. A version should be available soon for mobile phones. The latest installment follows Spyro on his mission to default GAul, the Ape King, before he brings a new age of darkness on the land. Players also have to puzzle out the secrets behind Spyro’s strange visions as the dragon comes to understand his role in an ancient prophesy.
“With massive worldwide appeal, the 20 million-unit-selling Spyro franchise opens yet another exciting chapter this holiday,” said Vivendi Games president Pascal Brochier, in a statement. “Based on the first installment’s success, we’re confident the new Legend of Spyro game is going to be a fan favorite for gamers of all ages.” Sierra Entertainment is a division of Vivendi Games.
The new game boats several new features, including a new “Dragon Time” feature which lets Spyro take control of time to dodge attacks and work through tricky environments. Eternal Night also features new breath attacks, several upgrade options, an all new elemental melee, and a massively expanded environment to explore.
This installment in the Spyro franchise also sees the return of its top-notch voice talent: actors Elijah Wood voices Spyro, while his mentor Ignatius is voiced by Gary Oldman. Futurama voice actor Billy West is also on board s Spyro’s sidekick Sparx.
The Legend of Spyro: Eternal Night is priced at $49.99 for the PS2, $39.99 for the Nintendo Wii, $29.99 for the Nintendo DS, and $19.99 for the Game Boy Advance. The Wii and PS2 versions are rated “E10+” by the ESRB, while the DS and GBA versions are rated “E for Everyone.”
