Dell Announces New LCD Displays

Although Dell seems to have taken some of the information off its site for the moment, Dell has spilled the beans on two new high-end flat panel displays it plans to show at CES: the 22-inch Dell Crystal display and the 30-inch UltraSharp 3008WFP.

The 22-inch Dell Crystal display has been rumored for quite some time, and was shown as a concept product last year at CES. The 22-inch LCD panel is embedded in a 4mm-thick tempered glass panel with integrated speakers, and sits on a chromed stand to create a "floating sceen" effect. The display has a native resolution of 1,156 by 1060 pixels, and features capactive touchscreen controls, a speedy 2 ms response time, a 2,000:1 contrast ratio, and Dell’s TrueColor technology. Users can connect it up using DVI or HDMI, and the display supports a subwoofer and USB. But it won’t be cheap: the Crystal display is expected to retail for $1,199.

Dell’s new 30-inch UltraSharp 3008WFP may be the first monitor to reach market with DisplayPort technology. DisplayPort is similar to HDMI, offering 10.8 Gbps bandwidth to the display and the capability to pump audio and video over the same cable, making it a possible standard for home entertainment products. The 3008WFP also features HDMI and DVi connectivity, a 2.560 by 1,600 pixel resolution, a 3,000:1 contrast ratio, and an 8 ms response time. The 3008WFP will retail for $2,499, and although it lacks the Crystal display’s distinctive design, at least users can swivel it on its base and adjust its height, not just adjust the tilt.
